Program Description:     The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.

Job Summary:
The Hospital / MLMCC Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment
within the hospital/MLMCC. This role involves routine cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, public
areas, and other facilities to ensure a hygienic atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
 Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of patient rooms, bathrooms, hallways, and waiting areas.
 Dust, sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in designated areas.
 Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste according to hospital protocols.
 Use appropriate cleaning agents and disinfectants to sanitize surfaces, including medical equipment,
beds, and furniture.
 Follow infection control guidelines to prevent the spread of germs and infections.
 Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
 Report any shortages or maintenance issues to the supervisor.
 Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures related to cleanliness and safety.
 Participate in training sessions related to infection control and safety protocols.
 Work closely with nursing staff and other departments to ensure timely cleaning of areas as needed.
 Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding cleaning schedules and
special requests.
 Follow proper handling and disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
 Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Qualifications:
 High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
 Previous experience in a cleaning role, preferably in a healthcare setting, is an advantage.
 Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and safety practices.
 Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
 Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
 Good communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
 Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
 Stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
 Exposure to cleaning chemicals; must follow safety guidelines.
