Main fields of Welthungerhilfe intervention in Afghanistan are emergency relief, food and nutrition security, rural and regional development and water and sanitation.

Job Descriptions:

Purpose of the position:                                                                                     

Ensure the full compliance of project operations adhering to WHH rules, regulations, and policies The Livelihood Assistant will support WHH’s Agriculture based -food production development projects, as well as other private sector and market-based livelihood projects as needed.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with local communities and project participants.
  • Organizing and holding meetings with local communities and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with project participant selection, registration, and mobilization of communities prior to distributions and training activities.
  • Participates in needs assessments, participatory rural appraisals, feasibility studies, stakeholder analyses, and community consultations.
  • Various fieldwork including but not limited to assisting with distributions.
  • To assist LFS Team in the identification of vulnerable and eligible households for agribusiness Food production support and other income generation activities. 
  • Support the Project team on technical as well as extension methodology and the introduction of staple food crops, off-season production, and exploring opportunities and models for contract farming.
  • Support the project team on Integrated Pest and Diseases Management (IPM) Techniques, Surface irrigation, Storage, and transportation techniques.
  • Support the project team in applying Good Agricultural Practices for Staple vegetable crops such as Potatoes, Onions, and Tomatoes and Promoting staple crop production opportunities.
  • Help the project team to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable groups in the community (including women) are targeted and included in all livelihood and Food security activities.
  • To deliver agriculture-related training on agribusiness management, plant disease, fundamentals of the plants, food security value chain, Business development-related training, and ongoing support to the selected beneficiaries to ensure they produce income.
  • Liaise/ consult regularly with private sector actors to identify areas with high potential for small business development or employment – to properly advise beneficiaries on realistic business development opportunities.
  • Provide an enabling environment for implementing cash-based interventions, including cash for business start-ups and cash for food.
  • Performs any other task as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related fields
  • 1-3 years relevant experience working for an (I)NGO
  • Previous experiences working towards food security and nutrition, is a distinct advantage.
  • Clear conceptual understanding and practical experience in analysis of local socio-cultural context and situation, rural power structures, and dynamics in Afghanistan.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, workshops, and gatherings to reach the required outputs.
  • Fluent in local languages, and good understanding of English

Familiarity with MS. Office, and strong communication, presentation and report writing skills.
