Job Descriptions:

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

Collaborates with project leadership, technical and finance/operations staff, MSH Head Office (HO) communications colleagues, and key stakeholders to develop and implement communications strategies that promote visibility, convey project achievements to target audiences, and contribute to project success and organizational growth.   

Technical Activities

  • Define and implement audience-focused, results-driven communications strategies for the project in collaboration with project and country leadership.
  • Manage the development of print and online publications, videos and photo essays, conference presence and events, and social media and web updates. Write and produce creative and compelling content that conveys technical information in clear and accessible manners to key audiences. Contribute to effective donor reporting.
  • prepare and submit regular project reports, including weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, and annual reports, to USAID in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Manage distribution and dissemination of project materials in hardcopy and online; coordinate with HO communications and knowledge management teams to maintain a system of information sharing and to establish digital and appropriate hard copy files for all publications and project communications.
  • Work closely with USAID and implementing partners to define and implement communication priorities and activities. Liaise with donor communications officers to align strategies and enhance visibility within donor audiences.
  • Ensure that the program’s identity, brand, and strategic messaging is in accordance with donor requirements and organizational strategies, and that all communications comply with USAID branding and marking requirements and review and approval processes.
  • Prepare, translate, manage, disseminate, and maintain official letters, requests, and documents for both incoming and outgoing communications.
  • Support the COP to collect, coordinate, and respond to external inquiries in collaboration with project teams and under the direction of AFIAT's leadership.
  • Ensure keeping the proper filing and archiving of project-related documents, correspondence, and information shared with and received from external entities.
  • Implement and adhere to MSH and USAID branding and marking guidelines in all AFIAT project content, ensuring that logos, typefaces, colours, and other visual elements are consistent.
  • Conduct communications-related trainings for project staff.

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as may be needed or assigned.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in journalism, communications, business administration, or other related discipline.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:                                  

At least Seven (7) years of relevant experience in a similar position preferably with international organizations or similar organizations is required. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience with public health communications and relevant technical areas required.
  • Understanding of USAID, including trends, audiences, and requirements and experience in the implementation of USAID-funded global projects required.
  • Understanding of boundaries of work under the licenses provided by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control related to Afghanistan (https://ofac.treasury.gov). 
  • Demonstrated experience developing communications strategies, annual plans, and materials related to relevant project technical areas.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and a demonstrated capacity to establish clear and concise communication with team members, senior management, and partner organizations across cultures to deliver results.
  • Experience in the production of print and digital communications content and dissemination strategies.

COMPETENCIES:                          

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills both in local languages and English.
