Job Descriptions:

) Regular Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic interventions for female patients, using evidence-based approaches.
  • Offer individual and group therapy sessions to patients with mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma and stress-related disorders.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans in collaboration with medical teams, including psychiatrists, primary care providers, and etc.
  • Address psychosocial issues specific to women, including reproductive health, postpartum depression, trauma and gender-based violence.
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling for patients facing acute psychological issues.
  • Offer supportive counseling and coping strategies to help patients deal with chronic illnesses, life transition and stressors.
  • Provide psychological support to families of patients to help them cope with the mental and emotional challenges of caregiving.
  • Work in coordination with other healthcare providers, including medical doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to provide integrated mental and physical health care.
  • Participate in case discussions, patient rounds and treatment planning with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Advocate for the mental health needs of female patients and ensure they receive appropriate care.
  • Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment option and coping mechanisms.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines, ensuring patient confidentiality and dignity at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with FMIC policies and legal standards.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of all clinical sessions, treatment plans and patient progress.
  • Participate in regular departmental meetings, case reviews and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with FMIC policies and national mental health guidelines.

 

Periodic Responsibilities:

  • Lead mental health awareness and education initiatives focused on women's mental health, including workshops, seminars and community outreach programs.
  • Participate in outreach activities, including mental health camps, to promote early identification and intervention in mental health conditions.
  • Work with community leaders to address cultural stigmas related to mental health and encourage treatment-seeking behavior among women.
  • Periodically conduct training sessions for healthcare staff on psychological first aid, mental health awareness and the psychosocial needs of patients.
  • Engage in research on women’s mental health, contribute to publications, and promote evidence-based practices within FMIC.
  • Periodically review and contribute to the development of mental health policies and guidelines with a focus on gender-sensitive care.
  • Participate in continuous professional development through attending relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Stay updated with the latest research, techniques and best practices in psychology, especially  concerning women’s mental health.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong therapeutic and counseling skills, with a focus on individual and group therapy.
  • Ability to manage complex emotional and mental health conditions in female patients.
  • Empathy and active listening skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity, with an understanding of the specific mental health needs and challenges faced by women in Afghanistan.
  • Excellent communication in Dari, Pashto and English (oral and written) is preferred.
  • Strong ethical judgment and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to determine an accurate diagnosis and develop a proper treatment plan.
