Therefore, EPDO aims to increase the capacity of vulnerable groups, especially women and youth, to enable them to represent their needs in all aspects of development. EPDO focuses on various spectrums of peace, security, livelihood, and development in Afghanistan — ranging from the salient need for humanitarian assistance, economic empowerment, and continuous development processes, to long-term projects for sustainable peace.  EPDO thematic areas focusing on women are as, Humanitarian Response and Livelihood Support, Peacebuilding and Good Governance and Human Rights.

 

Purpose of the Role

The Community Outreach and Psychosocial Counselor is responsible for conducting field visits to local communities in the assigned provinces. The purpose is to engage with community members, focusing on women's needs, and provide psychosocial counseling to empower and support them.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Needs Assessment and Reporting:
    • Assess the psychosocial needs of community members, with an emphasis on women's well-being.
    • Document sessions and prepare regular reports detailing the support provided and progress achieved.
    • Highlight key findings and make recommendations for further action.
  2. Community Visits and Engagement:
    • Conduct regular visits to local communities in Jawzjan, Samangan, Faryab, and Nimroz to build trust and establish strong relationships.
    • Meet with community leaders, members, and particularly women to understand their concerns and challenges.
  3. Psychosocial Counseling:
    • Provide psychosocial support and counseling services, ensuring that at most probable number of women in each community are reached.
    • Create a safe and supportive environment for women to share their experiences and challenges.
    • Develop tailored counseling plans that address the specific needs of women in these communities.
  4. Awareness and Education:
    • Organize workshops, discussion groups, and awareness-raising sessions focused on mental health and well-being.
    • Educate women about coping mechanisms and resilience strategies for better mental health.
    • Provide tips and strategies for staying safe from gender-based violence at home and within the community.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience in community outreach and counseling, particularly focusing on women.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of local dynamics.
  • Proficiency in local languages and English is must
