Job Descriptions:

The Nutrition Program Manager is responsible for leading and managing nutrition programs within the organization, ensuring that they align with public health goals, enhance community health outcomes, and promote sustainable nutrition practices. This role involves overseeing the design, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition programs, working with stakeholders, and leading a team of nutrition professionals to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Design & Development:
    • Lead the development, planning, and implementation of community-based nutrition programs aimed at improving public health, food security, and nutrition outcomes.
    • Identify the nutritional needs of the target population and design evidence-based interventions to address those needs.
    • Develop program strategies that are aligned with local and international health standards, such as WHO guidelines, and national nutrition policies.
  2. Team Leadership & Capacity Building:
    • Manage and supervise a team of nutritionists, dietitians, and program staff, providing guidance and support to ensure program goals are met.
    • Conduct training and capacity-building activities for team members, enhancing their knowledge and skills in nutrition interventions, monitoring, and evaluation.
    • Foster a collaborative team environment and encourage professional development within the nutrition team.
  3. Program Implementation & Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day implementation of nutrition programs, ensuring that activities are carried out according to established timelines, budget, and quality standards.
    • Coordinate with other program departments and external partners to ensure the integration of nutrition interventions with other health, education, and community development efforts.
    • Monitor program activities, ensuring that they meet the needs of the target population and adjust interventions as necessary to improve effectiveness.
  4. Monitoring, Evaluation, & Reporting:
    • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks for nutrition programs, ensuring that outcomes are tracked and reported in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Regularly assess program effectiveness and impact, including conducting surveys, focus groups, and reviewing health data to measure progress.
    • Prepare and present reports on program progress, challenges, and outcomes to senior management and stakeholders.
    • Use data to make informed decisions about program modifications or scaling up interventions.
  5. Resource & Budget Management:
    • Oversee the nutrition program budget, ensuring that funds are allocated efficiently and effectively to achieve program goals.
    • Seek funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and partnerships, to support program expansion and sustainability.
    • Ensure the effective use of resources, including food supplies, educational materials, and human resources, while adhering to budget constraints.
  6. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community leaders, health professionals, and donors.
    • Collaborate with local authorities and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of nutrition programs with local needs and health priorities.
    • Advocate for nutrition-related policies and improvements in public health nutrition at local, regional, and national levels.
  7. Advocacy & Public Awareness:
    • Raise awareness about nutrition issues, advocating for better nutrition policies, healthier diets, and improved food security at both the community and policy levels.
    • Develop public awareness campaigns, workshops, and educational materials to promote healthy eating, lifestyle changes, and nutrition-related interventions.
    • Participate in national and international forums, conferences, and discussions on nutrition and public health issues.
  8. Research & Innovation:
    • Keep up to date with the latest nutrition research, trends, and best practices to inform program design and implementation.
    • Encourage the use of innovative approaches and solutions in nutrition interventions, including new technologies or strategies for reaching underserved populations.
    • Conduct research or collaborate with academic institutions on nutrition-related studies to improve program outcomes.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • A Master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with significant experience in nutrition program management may also be considered.
    • Certifications such as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), or other relevant certifications are highly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience in nutrition program management or a related field, with a strong understanding of community-based nutrition interventions.
    • Proven experience in leading teams and managing multi-disciplinary projects.
    • Extensive experience in monitoring and evaluation, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
    • Experience working with vulnerable populations such as children, pregnant women, the elderly, and low-income communities is highly valued.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
    • Excellent program management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
    • In-depth knowledge of nutrition science, public health nutrition, and best practices in nutrition program implementation.
