About Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan):

Established in 1979 in Tokyo, Japan, AAR Japan operates in 15 countries, including Afghanistan, delivering various humanitarian aid programs. Since setting up its office in Kabul in January 2002, AAR Japan has been committed to Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE), assistance for Persons with Disabilities, and emergency aid initiatives.

AAR Japan's EORE program, in collaboration with the Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC) and UNICEF, began in October 2003, producing media materials for Afghanistan's Mine Action Program (MAPA) and Community-Based Mobile Cinema Projects.

Currently, AAR Japan is engaged in Emergency Food Assistance, EORE, and Disability awareness projects, supported mainly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), Japan Platform (JPF), and public donations from the people of Japan.

Job Descriptions:

The Female Field Assistant will deliver Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) to communities affected by explosive ordnance, raising awareness, promoting behavioral change, and reducing the risk of injury.

Additionally, the Field Assistant will support other development and humanitarian initiatives, such as promoting inclusive education and emergency food distribution, as required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Field Operations:

  • Assist the Field Coordinators in implementing EORE activities in assigned communities.
  • Conduct EORE sessions to beneficiaries by setting up classrooms for EORE sessions in targeted communities in line with EORE guidelines and the operational work plan in close collaboration with other Field staff.
  • Distribute educational materials during EORE sessions.
  1. Data Collection and Reporting:
  • Conduct pre- and post-EORE surveys to measure the understanding level of beneficiaries as per schedule and ensure accurate data collection.
  • Facilitate internal and external monitoring of EORE activities and report for feedback to the Project Officers.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records of project activities.
  • Report on project implementation progress to the Project Officers.
  1. Community Engagement:
  • Establish strong relationships with target communities, ensuring effective liaison before starting project activities.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders, such as local authority, community leaders and members, to facilitate project activities.
  • Address community concerns and feedback to supervisors (Field Coordinators and/or Project Officers) in a timely manner.
  1. Logistics and Coordination:
  • Ensure coordination and effective communication with team members.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of project-related equipment and materials.
  • Supervise the conduct of the driver assigned to the team.

5. Others:

  • Brief visitors and supervisors on project activities and community insights.
  • Perform other clerical tasks as instructed by the Field Coordinators and/or Project Officers, if required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE).
  • Excellent skills in liaison and communication.
  • Teaching experience, preferably with NGOs.
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Strong teamwork capabilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to undertake long-distance missions within Afghanistan.
  • Computer skills are an advantage.
  • Fluency in Pashto and Dari (English proficiency is preferred).
