About Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation And Recreation (AABRAR):

AABRAR is a local Afghan non-government organization concerned with the rehabilitation and socioeconomic integration of disabled people and other vulnerable groups into the community.

Founded in 1992, AABRAR began a bicycle-training program for amputees to improve mobility and increase their independence, enabling them to travel to and from work, and save on transportations costs. Since then, AABRAR has expanded its activities  to  offer  a  range  of  services  to  vulnerable  people,  designing  special programs for women and children to address their needs. Programs include physiotherapy and health care, bicycle training, vocational trainings, numeracy and literacy classes, mine awareness, Education, health education, Livelihood, WASH and various sporting activities. AABRAR also works in the area of social development, helping to raise awareness of the rights of disabled people within Afghanistan and dispel negative attitudes towards disability.

AABRAR has widened its beneficiary classification to include other vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans, unemployed people, youth, ex-combatants, and street children, so as to reach those people most in need of assistance. Since 1992 AABRAR has helped over 15,000 people recover physically and emotionally from their injuries and increased their socioeconomic participation.

Job Descriptions:

Scope of Work:

The Community Mobilizer plays a key role in implementing education initiatives by engaging communities, supporting teachers, and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure quality education for targeted children. Responsibilities include leading community mobilization efforts, raising awareness, and establishing School Management Shuras (SMS) and CBE classes in alignment with organizational plans and policies.

Key Working Relationships:

The responsibilities of the AQBE Community Mobilizer include, but not limited to:

  • Work with community to identify education needs, create work plan, assuring that community members are supporting the education program and School Shura
  • Establish and maintains good working relations with SMS members, community elders and DED to strengthen community mobilization process.
  • Plan capacity building trainings and events and lead the training delivery to target SMS members.
  • With guidance from AQBE PMU office, plan and facilitate district level exchange visits among SMSs;
  • Contact, orient, and mobilize respective parents and communities on education related topics and work with communities on Early Grade Reading and learning specific related activities.
  • Facilitate participatory planning and development of School Improvement Plans (SIPs), approval and implementation process.
  • Engage in conflict resolution and peace education at the school community level and liaise between school/community, project IPs and education offices at the district levels.
  • Conduct campaigns and trainings for raising awareness about Education, especially for girls.
  • Maintain and develop regular contact and mutual understanding between AQBE and community representatives in their respective areas in order to have effective communication.
  • Work with communities to ensure safety and security of children and school facilities.
  • Develop and implement all community mobilization activities, and make sure that the community level stakeholders actively participate in the process of project cycles management. 
  • Assist project community engagement and M&E teams in data collection and reporting
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor
  • Conduct trainings SMS/ CEC members, schools’ headmasters/ principles.
  • Facilitate social audits on school level.
  • Facilitate Exchange visits amount School Management Shuras SMSs.
  • Facilitate school safety assessment and conduct follow up visits to monitor the progress.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences or any other any relevant fields.
  • At least 3 years of related experience in community mobilization, community participation and conflict resolution and involvement of community and parents in community level activities, preferably with an international organization and Ministry of Education.
  • Familiar with required office packages
  • Proficient in Pashto and Dari languages with good understanding and writing of English.
  • Knowledge of the community structure, dynamics and development and community mobilization approach.
  • Knowledge of the value of education in Islam, the child development and the current trend of education in Afghanistan.
  • Ability to regularly travel to the target school and communities.
  • Ability to effectively conduct and manage community level meetings and exchange visits.
  • Have good communication and coordination skills both community and Schools level.
  • Be familiar with the culture of the communities.
  • Experience of working in formal education system.
  • Excellent Pashto and Dari written and speaking language skills.
  • Ability to prepare and submit timely report.
