About French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children:

Since 2006, the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) in Kabul, Afghanistan, has served patients from all 34 provinces. Operated through a public-private partnership among the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de L’Espoir, and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), with management by the Aga Khan University, FMIC delivers world-class medical services and drives healthcare innovation in the region.

FMIC provides specialized consultations, advanced diagnostics (CT, MRI, radiology), surgeries, a 24/7 pharmacy, and state-of-the-art laboratory testing. It has recorded over 2.3 million patient visits and consultations, conducted 6.8 million laboratory tests, and performed 59,000 surgeries, including more than 5,700 paediatric and adult cardiac procedures. As Afghanistan’s first ISO and SafeCare-certified hospital (recertified in 2024), FMIC has pioneered open-heart surgery, advanced diagnostics, and telemedicine, earning the IHF Award in 2021.

With a 176-bed capacity and a highly skilled Afghan medical team, FMIC is committed to advancing healthcare excellence. Through its Patient Welfare Support Programme, it has provided over $57.6 million in subsidized or free care, ensuring equitable access to high-quality treatment for vulnerable populations.

Job Descriptions:

Regular Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and treat patients within their area of expertise.
  • Provide comprehensive care plans, including consultations, follow-ups, and multidisciplinary approaches where necessary.
  • Supervise and ensure the quality of medical procedures and interventions performed by junior staff.
  • Document patient records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all clinical activities adhere to patient safety protocols and hospital quality standards.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, and risk management initiatives.
  • Actively participate in the training and supervision of junior doctors, medical students, and allied health professionals.
  • Contribute to Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions, workshops, and departmental case discussions.
  • Engage in research projects to advance medical knowledge and improve patient care.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences as applicable.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for patient-centered care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families to provide clear information about diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.
  • Lead departmental meetings and contribute to hospital strategic planning.
  • Assist in developing clinical guidelines, policies, and protocols.

b. Periodic Responsibilities:

  • Participate in community outreach programs, health camps, and awareness campaigns.
  • Contribute to the periodic review and development of hospital policies and programs.
  • Attend national and international conferences, workshops, and training programs to stay updated on medical advancements.
  • Provide expertise during hospital emergencies, outbreaks, or natural disasters.

Job Requirements:

  • Familiarity with the latest medical advancements, guidelines, and standards.
  • Clinical expertise in managing complex cases.
  • Ethical decision-making and professionalism.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (in Pashto, Dari, and English Languages) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in medical record documentation.
  • Excellent computer skill specially in MS Office Packages.
