Job Descriptions:

Position Description:
The Project Engineer will act as the lead technical and coordination focal point in each district. S/he will be responsible for overseeing all infrastructure-related interventions under the project, including design, supervision, quality assurance, and coordination with local authorities. In addition, the engineer will act as the team leader in the district, ensuring the timely and effective execution of field-level activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Engineering Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, design, and technical supervision of construction and natural resource management interventions (e.g., stone masonry walls, irrigation canals, trenches, forest protection, flood control structures).
  • Conduct technical assessments, site surveys, and prepare engineering designs, BoQs, and material specifications.
  • Supervise daily activities of foremen, skilled/unskilled laborers, and ensure implementation is in line with technical specifications.
  • Identifying potential problems and developing solutions to ensure smooth project progress.
  • Resolving technical issues and conflicts that arise during the project lifecycle
  • Ensure adherence to construction quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Facilitate site-level coordination meetings with district authorities, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly technical progress, qualitative and quantitative narrative reports including prove documentation.
  • Oversee inventory and use of construction materials and tools.
  • Ensure integration of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate-resilient engineering techniques.
  • Work closely with agronomists and trainers for site integration and multi-sectoral coordination.
  • Report security, operational, or logistical issues to the Project Manager in a timely manner.

  • Providing guidance and support for professional development. 
  • Conducting regular team meetings to track progress and address challenges. 
  • Allocating resources effectively to meet project demands. 

Performance Management:

  • Setting performance goals and objectives for team members. 
  • Monitoring team performance and providing feedback. 
  • Addressing performance issues and implementing corrective actions. 

Stakeholder Management:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders. 
  • Keep good communication and Coordination with relevant stakeholders.

  1. Additional Job Responsibilities
  • The duties and responsibilities set out above are not exhaustive, and the postholder may be required to carry out additional duties from time to time, subject to change with the evolution of the project progress and in accordance with project nature, MAAO, and donor requirements, which are reasonable in relation to their level of skills and experience. The Project Engineer, District Team Leader is required to carry out the tasks that are unforeseen issues and circumstances in relation to the project and should remain adaptable to perform responsibilities that may not be mentioned above as and when required.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of field engineering experience, preferably with WFP or similar rural development programs, coordination, risk management, context analysis, or implementation of project activities with National and International NGOs.
  • Experience in programme coordination, preferably in emergency context will be an asset.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, GIS, MS Excel, and project planning tools.
  • Very good written and oral English skills, experience in usage of digital data collection platforms, i.e., MODA, KOBO, etc.
  • Strong skills in team coordination, construction supervision, and community liaison.
  • Ability to live and work in remote field conditions.
