Job Descriptions:

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 

Level 2: either the post holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or the post holder will be working  in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore a police check  will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Watershed Assistant will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of watershed management activities aimed at sustainable land and water resource conservation. This role involves fieldwork, community engagement, data collection, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of watershed development program in supervision of Watershed/Construction Engineer.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

  • Under the supervision of watershed/Construction Engineer, the whatershed assistant assist in the planning and implementation of watershed development activities including soil and water conservation measures, afforestation, and water harvesting structures.
  • The watershed assistant engineer should have full knowledge of designs and implementation of small scale irrigation canals, solar system water well, and small and medium water reservoir and waterpond.
  • The watershed assistant is responsible to support project team on site selection, conducting feasibility studies, first draft design, preparing work plans and implementation of the infrastructures.
  • Conduct field surveys and collect data on land use, water resources, and vegetation cover.
  • Support community mobilization and capacity-building activities related to watershed management and Coordinate with local communities, farmers’ groups, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Village Watershed Committees (VWCs).
  • Monitor ongoing projects and maintain accurate records of project activities and outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports, case studies, and photo documentation of field activities.
  • Promote sustainable agricultural and water-use practices within the watershed area.
  • Maintain daily records, update attendance sheet of labours and tracking construction materials in and out in the project site.
  • Supervise skilled and un-skilled labours on timely basis and provide technical instruction to skilled labour on proper implementation of engineering activities in the concerned infrastructure.
  • Monitor frequently the work of the irrigation infrastructure, repairing check dams, installation of solar system water wells, excavation of waterpond and gabion weaving repairing process in the watershed level.
  • Liaise with beneficiaries, community mobilizers, and DRR officer and report any problems observing in the implementation of the project to project watershed engineer.
  •  Provide feedbacks to the M&E team in order to assess the effectiveness and impact of the project and propose recommendation for any adjustment required.
  • Develop and submit accurate monthly work plans and reports to the watershed engineer. These reports should include technical social and impact information.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Graduate/Diploma in engineering or relevant irrigation and watershed field.
  • At least two years’ experience (if post graduate degree one years’ experience) of engineering infrastructure include irrigation channel, farm ponds, check dams, water reservoir, solar system water well etc.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Graduate degree in engineering or relevant irrigation and watershed field
  • At last two years’ experience (if post graduate degree one years’ experience) of engineering infrastructure include irrigation channel, farm ponds, check dams, water reservoir, solar system water well etc.
  • Experience in watershed management and river basin approach
  • Experience of work with community based institution.

Desirable

  • Clear understanding of office procedures
  • Motivated and energetic
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Agriculture policies and procedures
  • Good interpersonal relationship with people from different origins
  • Good spoken and written Pashto, Dari and English.
  • Basic knowledge’s and skills on computer (Microsoft office, AutoCAD, KOBO).
  • Good communication and inter personal relation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field.
  • A good team player & problem solver.
  • Fair Enough in report writing.
  • Ability to travel to other provinces and support the team.
  • Cooperative and helpful attitude, and willingness to work outside normal business hours as needed.
  • In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly
