Job Descriptions:

As part of the Just Future project’s efforts in strengthening the capacity of the Access to Justice network in Herat province, the workshop Trainer will be responsible for designing and delivering 2 full days of training on Toxic Customary practices and traditional dispute resolution mechanisms and their linkages with basic human rights principles to the Access to Justice network based in Herat province.

Responsibilities:

Work under the direct supervision of the Project lead/secretariat coordinator to deliver effective training sessions.

Possess a strong understanding of Islamic law, the rule of law, informal justice systems, and community-based conflict resolution traditions (e.g., Jirgas).

Design and develop training materials, including visual aids such as charts, posters, and handouts, tailored to the audience’s needs.

Facilitate training sessions on toxic customary practices and traditional dispute resolution mechanisms and their linkages with basic human rights principles.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to members of the Access to Justice Network (AJN) on Islamic principles, human rights, and informal justice practices.

Assess the quality and impact of the training through pre- and post-tests, and produce comprehensive training reports.

Prepare relevant administrative documents such as training needs assessments, attendance sheets, and logistics support lists.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Program team.

Deliverables:

1. Design of Comprehensive Pre- and Post-Test Materials: Develop targeted assessment tools to evaluate participants’ baseline knowledge and learning outcomes on customary dispute resolution and human rights principles.

2. Development of Tailored Training Materials: Create engaging, culturally relevant training resources, including visual aids (charts, posters, handouts) designed specifically for the Access to Justice Network in Herat province.

3. Effective Delivery of Two-Day Customary Dispute Resolution Training: Conduct interactive and participatory training sessions focused on toxic customary practices and traditional dispute resolution mechanisms and their integration with basic human rights, ensuring active learner engagement.

4. Provision of Expert Technical Guidance and Mentorship: Offer ongoing support and mentorship during the training to strengthen participants’ understanding of Islamic law, informal justice systems, and human rights connections.

5. Comprehensive Training Report Submission: Prepare and submit a detailed report to the project lead, including analysis of pre/ post-test results, participant feedback, training impact, and recommendations for future capacity building efforts.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

A Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, Social Sciences, International Relations and/ or a related field with a focus on human rights or legal aid preferred.

A Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in delivering training, particularly on access to justice, informal justice systems, or human rights.

Knowledge and Skills:

Strong facilitation and training skills with the ability to engage diverse participants effectively.

Excellent report writing skills in English and national languages (Dari and/or Pashto).

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Ability to communicate complex legal and human rights concepts in a clear, culturally sensitive, and accessible manner.
