Teach For Afghanistan is Afghanistan’s largest youth-led non-profit organization committed to ending educational inequality in Afghanistan. Through our Fellowship program, advocacy work, and grassroots partnerships, we aim to bring quality education to underserved children and build a movement of Afghan leaders who are driving long-term systemic change.
Teach For Afghanistan have operations in 4 provinces, Kabul, Parwan, Nangarhar and Laghman.
As we enter a new phase of growth, we are looking for a high-performing, globally minded Director of Impact Growth & Partnerships to help us secure new resources, lead external engagement, and ensure delivery across our national team.
Role Overview:
The Director of Impact Growth & Partnerships will serve as a core member of the leadership team, focused on two mission-critical pillars:
1. Partnerships – Raising funds, leading donor communications, building strategic collaborations, and advocating for TAO globally.
2. Impact Growth – Supporting and leading internal operations and team alignment to ensure TAO delivers on its programmatic and expansion targets.
Note: This is a remote role, but it requires international travel to represent TAO in donor meetings, conferences, and strategic advocacy opportunities.
1. PARTNERSHIPS (60%):
a) Fundraising & Proposal Development:
• Identify funding opportunities, prepare proposals, concept notes, pitch decks, and grant applications tailored to institutional donors, private foundations, and development agencies.
• Prepare all donor program and financial reports in close coordination with relevant departments and submit them on time.
• Ensure all funding deliverables are tracked, monitored, and communicated to donors.
• Work closely with our 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization, Friends of Teach For Afghanistan (FTFA), based in Delaware, United States, to support its fundraising efforts, including organizing fundraising and gala events in the U.S and internationally.
b) Strategic Partnerships:
• Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with current and potential donors, including USAID, UN agencies, foundations, embassies, and INGOs working in Afghanistan or with an interest in the region.
• Lead strategic outreach and engagement with new global partners.
• Represent TAO in donor meetings and high-level events, working alongside the CEO to present TAO’s impact and funding needs.
• Lead follow-up, relationship-building, and documentation of all external engagement.
c) International Travel & Advocacy:
• Travel to represent TAO in international conferences, donor meetings, and global education forums to advocate for Afghan girls, students, and TAO’s mission.
• Secure speaking opportunities and visibility for yourself and for TAO leadership to represent TAO in important global conferences and events.
d) External Communications (with the CEO):
• Co-lead all external organizational communication and engagement strategies with the CEO.
• Prepare briefing materials, donor updates, reports, and talking points for the CEO and senior team.
• Ensure all public messaging aligns with TAO’s funding goals and brand voice.
2. ONLINE FUNDRAISING & DIGITAL ALIGNMENT (20%)
1. Plan, design, and launch fundraising campaigns on different online fundraising platforms.
2. Explore and utilize global fundraising platforms such as GlobalGiving, GoFundMe, JustGiving, and others to diversify TAO’s donor base.
3. Build and maintain a contact list of prospective individual and institutional donors to directly pitch and convert to supporters.
4. Work closely with the Marketing and Branding Team to align all digital communications, social media posts, email campaigns, and video content with TAO’s fundraising goals.
5. Ensure every online post contributes directly or indirectly to donor engagement or lead generation.
3. IMPACT GROWTH & INTERNAL ALIGNMENT (20%):
• Work closely with TAO’s Senior Management Team and Provincial Leads to ensure that programmatic, operational, and fundraising goals are met at the ground level.
• Conduct weekly coordination calls and monthly strategic check-ins with department heads and project leads in Nangarhar, Parwan, and other provinces.
• Guide and support local teams in building provincial partnerships and identifying local donors, NGOs, and private sector supporters.
• Track and review departmental progress and ensure all teams are aligned with quarterly goals and reporting systems.
• Lead internal knowledge-sharing and ensure teams are well-equipped to represent TAO in provincial-level advocacy and partnership opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in management or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising, partnership development, or donor relations in the non-profit or international development sector.
• Proven ability to write and win funding proposals.
• Excellent English writing and communication skills (grant writing samples may be requested).
• Strong networking and relationship-building abilities with donors and institutions.
• Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable working remotely and across time zones.
• Familiarity with online fundraising platforms and campaign management tools.
• Experience working in or with Afghanistan or similar contexts is a strong asset.
