Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.

 

The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.

AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.

Job Descriptions:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Apply MOPH/AKHS-A National medicine policy, long term action plan and pharmaceutical annual report.
  • Responsible for planning, implementing, supervision and monitoring of pharmaceutical activities.
  • Support and monitor overall medicine supply and medical equipment and check for their accuracy with logistic department.
  • Review and verify all pharmaceutical certificates for each item batch during receipt at the NPO warehouse.
  • Conduct medical equipment checks upon reception, prepare Goods Delivery Notes (GDNs), and ensure timely follow-up with regional offices.
  • Prepare reports and coordinate with AFDA on procured medicines at the NPO level, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in using mSupply software for pharmaceutical stock management, inventory control, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Ability to train and support colleagues on mSupply usage, ensuring accuracy in stock records and compliance with standard operating procedures.
  •  for conduct of related training for pharmacists at the provincial level and health facilities.
  • Identify and reports problem that interferes the delivery of services.
  • Provide first aid kits for the office and emergency kits for the vehicles traveling around.
  • Make sure that the medicine supply arranged according to the expiry date.
  • Ensure safe, clean and proper storage of all medicine and other medical equipment within the warehouse.
  • Prepare monthly activity reports of the pharmacy department.
  • Supervise distribution of stocks like medicine, medical consumable and equipment properly.
  • Estimate the number of drugs needed for implementation of BPHS/EPHS in each facility, the estimate is to be based on data reflecting actual need and consumption.
  • Assist in the implementation of the use of medicine consumption forms in all health facilities supported by NGO.
  • Review and comment on pharmaceutical requests prior to finalizing them.
  • Prepare order list for medicine, medical material and equipment with coordination national team.
  • Coordinate with admin/logistic department to ensure that all medical supplies have been sent and receive properly by the regional office and facilities.
  • Maintain record of all source documents on computer, hardcopies, register and ensure ready availability for audits/ evaluations.
  • Establish liaison and rapport with MOPH related department to be strengthened the BPHS/EPHS.
  • Provision of training for pharmacy officers to update knowledge.
  • Any assignment given by the line manager.
  • Be guided by the AKHS Code of Conduct including the institutional safeguarding principles in all dealings.
  • Consider institutional Net-Zero targets and plans when carrying out responsibilities
