About MEDAIR:

Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district.  The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend the utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs, and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.

Job Descriptions:

Overall purpose:

Alleviate water stress and increase access to water, sanitation, and hygiene for people vulnerable to malnutrition and food insecurity in Kandahar Province – primarily for water supply projects, but also for emergency responses and Medair’s WASH support in health facility programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Giving high quality and participatory trainings on community level.
  2. Capacity builds volunteers on training skills and topics.
  3. Preparing trainings, making sure IEC materials is ready on time and processed correctly.
  4. Providing constructive feedback towards volunteers.
  5. Participating in household counts, surveys and other monitoring and evaluation activities.
  6. Provide accurate records, documents and reports as required.
  7. Ability to work in the locations of the Spin Boldak, Daman and Panjwai districts even other districts of province.

 Technical:

  • Giving Qualitative and participatory training on water user communities and volunteer level
  • Being an example in the community.
  • Building up the training capacity of Community Health and Nutrition Beneficiaries and providing constructive feedback.
  • Making sure that supporting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) material is prepared and distributed on time and processed correctly.

Community Acceptance:

  • Coordinate and liaise with local communities to find volunteers and promoters as well as accurate training places for promoter training and water user communities.
  • Coordinate and liaise with local communities when there are challenging circumstances or problems, and know when to ask for help from officer, Team leader and managers or other relevant parties.

Data / Program Quality:

  • Responsible for conducting the training to water user committees
  • Work with the communities for awareness
  • Responsible for printing and preparing tally sheets on time.
  • Making sure that tally sheets are accurate.
  • When giving training water user committees and using checklists and providing constructive feedback to water user committee members,
  • Sharing the importance of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene to communities and to patients in the BHCs level.

Job Requirements:

Education: Minimum 2 Years Diploma in health Science, Physical Science and other Social Sciences.

bachelor’s and master's degree preferred. 

Relevant experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in WASH is required and having experience in hygiene promotion, and CLTS is desirable.

Languages: Fluent in Pashto -oral and written skills and some English -oral and written skills is required and good English oral and written skills is desirable.

Computer: Working knowledge in MS word and excel is desirable.

  • Ability to organize people in an orderly way and prioritize tasks.
  • Good listening and counselling skills, patient and kind attitude.
