SUMMARY
The Program Coordinator provides advice and guidance in strategic decision-making to the Office of the Executive Director, He/she is responsible for working collaboratively with program units in program development, strategic planning, provision of technical assistance, and conduct of program audits. The Program Coordinator is responsible for formal and informal mentoring of local staff to promote their professional development, and working in partnership with other units including Human Resources to identify technical and professional development needs requiring in-house or external training that will increase the effectiveness of the program staff in professional development areas related to technical and financial program development, program management, and program monitoring.
Internal Relationships:
Extensive interaction with program/project managers/directors and staff, technical staff. Regular interaction with General Director/Executive Director. Periodic interaction with Finance staff, and Finance/Grants, Administration, Human Resources, and Security Departments.
External Relationships:
Ongoing interaction with Afghan Authority, donors, international/local organizations, Networks, and the international community.
1. Plan, coordinate, and manage all activities of the agriculture project from start to completion.
2. Develop project work plans, timelines, and budgets in line with project objectives.
3. Oversee field operations including crop, livestock, irrigation, or agribusiness activities.
4. Supervise and guide project staff, field officers, and contractors.
5. Coordinate with agronomists, extension workers, farmers, and other technical experts.
6. Ensure timely procurement and proper use of agricultural inputs and equipment.
7. Monitor project progress, outputs, and outcomes against set targets.
8. Identify risks and challenges and implement corrective actions.
9. Maintain strong relationships with farmers, partners, government agencies, and donors.
10. Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards.
11. Manage project finances and control expenditures within the approved budget.
12. Prepare and submit regular progress, technical, and financial reports.
13. Collect, analyze, and document field data and lessons learned.
14. Support training, capacity building, and knowledge-sharing activities.
15. Represent the project in meetings, workshops, and coordination forums.
1. Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Project Management, or a related field.
2. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (preferred).
3. Minimum of 3–5 years of experience managing agriculture or rural development projects.
4. Strong knowledge of agricultural production systems and value chains.
5. Proven experience in project planning, implementation, and reporting.
6. Experience supervising field teams and working with farming communities.
7. Ability to manage budgets, procurement, and project resources effectively.
8. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation tools and data collection methods.
9. Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder coordination skills.
10. Ability to prepare clear technical and financial reports.
11. Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety standards in agriculture projects.
12. Proficiency in MS Office and basic project management tools.
13. Willingness to travel frequently to project sites and work in rural areas.
14. Problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently under pressure.
15. Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) is an added advantage
