Job Descriptions:

 The HOD (Head of Department) will be accountable for the effective academic, administrative, and operational management of the department including but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Set departmental goals and oversee daily operations to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of departmental activities.
  • Arrange regular meetings with academic team (lecturers) to ensure that students related problems are specifically addressed.
  • Develop and implement departmental plans and policies in alignment with University regulations.
  • Prepare and implement the annual operational plan, including the submission of monthly and quarterly progress reports to the relevant authorities as directed.
  • Working closely with the dean of Faculty to ensure improvement and innovation is in place for the efficient and effective operation of the department
  • Establish and maintain an effective filing, documentation, and data management system ensuring accuracy and timely updates of departmental records.
  • Identify departmental needs and coordinate with relevant units to ensure timely and effective solutions.
  • Performing academic research related activities and prepare required reports.
  • Schedule and hold regular Departmental meetings with the staff, students and stakeholders and producing agendas, minutes for the meetings.
  • Liaise and coordinate with academic and administrative staff to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Monitor, evaluate performance of newly inducted lecturers on a monthly and quarterly basis and reporting to relevant department.
  • Attending workshops and training sessions organized within the University Campus or outside the duty station as required.

 

Key functions as lecturer:

  • Prepare and develop handouts teaching materials for students using PowerPoint and other multimedia tools.
  • Plan and deliver lectures using modern teaching technologies and innovative instructional methods.
  • Design, develop, and produce new materials including audio- visual and digital learning resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the continuous review and enhancement of departmental academic programs.
  • Assess students’ coursework in accordance with University policies and provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Prepare, set, and mark examination papers in compliance with academic regulations.
  • Submits monthly student progress report to the Dean of Faculty.
  • Undertaking personal research projects and actively contribute to the University’s research output.
  • Supervise students’ research projects and provide academic guidance throughout the research process.
  • Motivate students to engage in research activities and support them in data collection and analysis.
  • Ensure daily student attendance is taken accurately and every day and report cases of poor attendance to the management.
  • Coordinate closely with other instructors regarding class schedules and academic activities.
  • Participate actively in internal committees, working groups
  • Establish and maintain collaborative linkages outside the university with (external partners) including industrial, commercial and public organizations to facilitate students’ practical and experiential learning.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team in curriculum development and departmental decision-making.
  • Supervise and monitor student projects, internships, and placements as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Master’s degree (MS, MBA, or MPhil with thesis) in Human Resource Management.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in a reputable higher education or academic institution.

Technical and Language Skills:

  • Excellent proficiency in Dari, Pashto, and English (written and spoken).
  • Strong computer literacy with advanced skills in MS Office applications.
  • Excellent report-writing skills in English, Pashto, and Dari.

Personal Competencies:

  • Hard-working, honest, disciplined, and punctual.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, with a high level of attention to students’ needs.
  • Sound academic knowledge and subject-matter expertise in the relevant field.
  • Flexible, well-organized, and able to prioritize workload while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills.
