Job Descriptions:

  1. Contract & Product Review
    1. Examine and vet all bank contracts, financing agreements and documentation to ensure Sharia compliance (e.g. Murabaha, Ijara, Musharaka, Mudaraba, etc.).
    2. Collaborate with product development or business units when designing or launching new Sharia-compliant products — provide Sharia counsel and approval sign-off.
  2. Transaction Monitoring & Sharia Audit
    1. Review and monitor ongoing banking operations — financing transactions, investments, deposits, fund transfers — for adherence to Sharia rules.
    2. Perform periodic Sharia compliance audits across departments and branches; detect and report any deviations or violations.
  3. Implementation of Sharia Board Decisions
    1. Maintain and manage records of fatwas / Sharia rulings / approvals issued by Sharia Supervisory Board.
    2. Ensure enforcement of those rulings in bank operations, procedures, products and contracts.
  4. Reporting & Documentation
    1. Prepare regular compliance reports (monthly/quarterly/annual) for the Head of Sharia and for internal/external audit, summarizing compliance status, issues found, and corrective measures.
    2. Maintain updated documentation for all compliance reviews, approvals, exceptions, and remedial actions.
  5. Coordination & Advisory Role
    1. Act as internal Sharia adviser — support business, operations, risk, legal, finance departments whenever they face Sharia-related questions.
    2. Work with internal audit, risk & compliance units to integrate Sharia compliance in wider compliance and risk frameworks.
  6. Training & Capacity Building
    1. Help design and deliver internal training about Sharia compliance, banking principles, and Sharia standards to staff across departments.
    2. Raise awareness among departments about Sharia policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  7. Continuous Monitoring & Improvement
    1. Keep up-to-date with evolving Sharia standards, rulings and industry best practices.
    2. Recommend improvements in policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance Sharia compliance.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s (or higher) in Islamic Studies / Sharia & Law / Islamic Finance / Banking / Business Administration / Law or related field.
  • Formal training or certification in Islamic banking or Sharia compliance (preferred).
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in Islamic banking, Sharia department or compliance role, with proven exposure to Sharia-compliant financial products and operations.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of Islamic banking principles and Sharia jurisprudence.
  • Ability to review and interpret financial contracts and complex transactions.
  • Analytical mindset and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills for inter-department collaboration.
  • Integrity, professionalism, impartiality in dealing with Sharia compliance issues.

Key Interfaces:

  • Reporting to the Head of Sharia Department
  • Collaboration with Business/Product Development, Operations, Risk & Compliance, Legal, Finance, Internal Audit teams.
