ATOA designs, develops, and implements programs centered on these six core areas, while also addressing three key issues that are integrated into our core programs.

Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

A Gender Specialist integrates gender equality principles into policies, programs, and projects, ensuring they are gender-responsive, inclusive, and empower women. They conduct gender analyses, design strategies, provide technical guidance to staff, facilitate training, and monitor the implementation of gender-related outcomes to address disparities in development and humanitarian contexts.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Gender Mainstreaming: Integrate gender perspectives into all stages of the project cycle (design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation).
  • Analysis & Strategy: Conduct gender analysis to identify disparities and develop targeted strategies, tools, and guidelines for gender-responsive programming.
  • Capacity Building: Organize and deliver training workshops for staff and partners on gender equality, women's empowerment, and respectful engagement techniques.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor project activities to ensure gender outcomes are met, collect sex-disaggregated data, and prepare reports.
  • Advocacy & Partnerships: Represent the organization in gender working groups, liaise with stakeholders (e.g., government, NGOs), and build relationships with community leaders.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development of policy initiatives related to gender equality.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Human Rights, International Development, or a related field.
  • Generally, 5–7+ years of experience in gender mainstreaming, policy advice, and project management, preferably in development or humanitarian contexts.
  • Deep understanding of gender issues, international human rights standards, and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention strategies.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Fluent in English, Pashto, and Dari with excellent speaking and writing skills.
  • Proficient computing skills – word processing, spreadsheet design, and presentations

  • Capacity to perform effectively under pressure and harsh conditions; ability to handle confidential and politically sensitive issues responsibly and maturely.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to integrate gender into broad, complex organizational goals.

  • Ability to travel throughout the country.

  • Ability to use information technology effectively.
