            SCAWNO Background  

Support Children and Afghan Women Needs Organization (SCAWNO) is a non-profit NGO registered with the Ministry of Economy of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, registration number 1174 in 2008. Established by a group of dedicated and qualified Afghan professionals, SCAWNO aims to promote community development, good governance, democracy building, and capacity building. The organization was founded by members of Local Youth Councils, with a mission to contribute positively to the development process of communities in Afghanistan through capacity building, women's rights awareness, gender-based violence, children's protection awareness, legal consultation, economic sustainability, income generation projects, literacy, vocational training, health education, and teacher training. SCAWNO's vision is to create a peaceful, free, and developed Afghanistan based on good Afghan cultural values, where the population lives in peace, with self-dignity and self-sufficiency, and where people manage their own personal development and the development of the society in which they live.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

  •  Maintain accurate and up to date financial records in compliance with SCAWNO policies and donor requirements
  •  Prepare payment vouchers, journal entries, and ensure all supporting documents are complete and properly filed
  •  Record daily financial transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks with high accuracy
  •  Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  •  Conduct regular bank, cash, and advance reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  •  Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets and report variances
  •  Assist in budget preparation, revision, and forecasting
  •  Ensure all financial transactions are properly authorized and supported by valid documentation
  •  Ensure full compliance with SCAWNO financial policies, donor regulations, and national tax laws
  •  Support internal and external audit processes by preparing required documentation and explanations
  •  Verify financial documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  •  Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all financial information
  •  Ensure proper application of financial controls and procedures
  •  Maintain proper filing systems for financial documents in both hard and soft formats
  •  Support procurement processes in line with organizational and donor policies
  •  Prepare purchase requests, follow up approvals, and ensure proper documentation
  •  Maintain inventory and asset registers, ensuring regular updates and verification
  •  Assist in managing office logistics, supplies, and asset management
  •  Coordinate with program, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure smooth financial operations
  •  Ensure timely submission of financial documents from field teams
  •  Provide support in donor reporting requirements and financial data consolidation
  •  Support communication between finance and program teams for better budget utilization
  •  Assist in cash management and safe handling of funds
  •  Perform any other finance tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field          
  • 3 years of relevant work in finance roles, preferably with NGOs or UN agencies.
  • Familiarity with UNESCO or other donor financial guidelines and audit
  • Strong organizational ability, attention to detail, confidentiality, and effective communication in English and local languages (Dari/Pashto)
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite(Specially Excel).
  • Familiarity with accounting principles, tax return filing and Afghanistan’s tax laws.
  • Strong teamwork, time management, and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate financial and administrative reports.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
