Job Description

SCOPE AND GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Senior Tax Officer is responsible for managing and overseeing all tax-related matters of the organization, including tax compliance, tax reporting, tax audits, tax planning, and coordination with tax authorities. The role ensures full adherence to applicable tax laws and regulations while minimizing tax risks and supporting strategic financial decisions.

Job Requirements

MAIN DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all statutory tax returns, including income tax, withholding tax, VAT, and other applicable taxes.
  2. Review tax computations, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax regulations and implement changes as required.
  4. Ensure compliance with local tax requirements.
  5. Lead and coordinate responses to tax audits, queries, and assessments issued by tax authorities.
  6. Prepare documentation, explanations, and supporting evidence for tax inspections.
  7. Assist in drafting appeal letters and supporting cases during tax disputes.
  8. Identify opportunities for tax optimization within legal frameworks.
  9. Provide internal tax advisory to management and other departments on transactions, contracts, and business operations.
  10. Review tax general ledger accounts and ensure accurate reconciliations.
  11. Maintain proper documentation and records for audit and regulatory purposes.
  12. Strengthen internal controls relating to tax processes and risk management.
  13. Coordinate on ensuring accurate tax treatment of payments and transactions.
  14. Coordinate with external tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel when required.
  15. Prepare periodic tax reports, forecasts, and analysis for management.
  16. Monitor tax expenditures and contribute to budget and financial planning.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. To be thoroughly familiar with the responsibilities and to depute during his/her absence.
  2. To always provide courteous and professional services and maintain good working relationship with all colleagues.
  3. To be fully aware of the Hotel’s policy and procedures and to adhere to them.
  4. To have a complete understanding of the hotel’s policy relating to fire, safety, and health.
  5. To have a complete understanding of the hotel’s employee handbook and adhere to the regulations contained therein.
  6. To ensure the confidentiality of data and information and not to be disclosed outside the department. Financial Controller shall exercise discretion in this matter.
  7. Regularly attends on-the-job, behavioral, and vocational training in own and related areas to enhance skill and develop multi-functionality.
  8. He / She must be a self-starter, alert, energetic, responsible, and flexible.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in taxation, preferably in a corporate or financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of local tax laws and regulatory frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with tax audits, assessments, and appeals.
  • Excellent knowledge of tax laws and financial reporting standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply tax legislation.
  • Fluency in languages e.g., English, Dari and Pashto
