Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. Alongside the Ministry of Public Health, AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since its inception. AFGA is a fully accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and an important partner of UNFPA.
A committed team of more than 600 experts are working in 11 provinces of Afghanistan to achieve AFGA goals and objectives. AFGA provides health services to the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities through over 140 service delivery points.

Job Summary:
The AFGA MHTs are working to provide quality health services to the most vulnerable populations in Paktika province. The main target for the static/ mobile health facilities is the remote areas, emergency-affected populations, and IDPs, focusing on the improvement of RMNCAH services for the targeted population. The MHT nurse vaccinator is an important part of the health team, which will focus on routine immunization services provision targeting children and childbearing-aged women. The MHT nurse vaccinator will provide standard immunization services to clients, considering UNICEF and Afghanistan health services standards.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist and perform client Triage in the health facility to ensure that all the clients are receiving required and on-time services.
- The MHT nurse vaccinator will be responsible for the arrangement of health education sessions for clinical clients, including soft and hard services.
- Preparing an immunization activities plan both in the facility and for outreach.
- Preparing and sharing immunization-related reports and data with the MHT head.
- Considering the cold chain system in all the processes as per standard procedures.
- Implementing immunization(vaccine) activities as per UNICEF and EPI standards.
- Lead/ supervise the CHW's activities related to the vaccination process.
- Taking part in all technical meetings and awareness-raising activities on the community level relevant to immunization.
- Performing trauma care activities (dressing, wound care)
- Working as a health facility nurse, he/ she will be responsible for relevant activities.
- Assist team members with medicine provision/ dispensing if required.
- Work as a backup person to provide OPD services in case of the team doctor's absence.
- Any other responsibility assigned by the team leader.
- Regular vaccination to eligible women and children at the level of the mobile health and nutrition team.
- Administration and daily control of vaccine temperature.
- Having regular attendance and a regular and timely reporting system.
- Maintaining and guarding all systems and devices related to the mobile center.
- Performing additional tasks (related to mobile health team services) is requested by the relevant manager
- Good practice with visitors.
- Monitor child administered with vaccine for a period of 30mins, orient patients and caregivers on potential side effects and follow up for severe symptoms
- Taking into account the conditions of immune rabies at the time (100%) of applying the vaccine.
- Disposing needles and syringes and used safety box
- Providing health advertisements about the importance of vaccinations and emphasis on keeping the vaccination card correct to the clients.
- Daily control of the temperature of vaccines and recording it on paper, recording the temperature at the beginning of the formalities.
- Registering the adapted vaccines in the relevant registers and tally sheets.
- Preparing and delivering monthly reports to the relevant supervisor at a certain time.
- Ongoing efforts to raise the level of professional knowledge.
- Observing the cleanliness and safety of the relevant room and its proper arrangement.
Job Requirements
- Graduated from the registered nursing or pharmacy field with valid educational documents.
- Completion of EPI standard training with proof.
- At least two years’ experience working as a health facility nurse/ vaccinator.
- Familiarity with nursing procedures and working in medicine management is a plus point.
- Experience in the same position and familiarity with the BPH system are desired.
