About Shining Star Educational Organization of Afghanistan

Shining Star Educational Organization of Afghanistan (SSEOA) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and          non-political organization registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan, with Registration Number 4388 dated February 18, 2018. SSEOA works in the fields of education, health, and livelihood in the remote regions of Afghanistan. SSEOA envisions creating educational opportunities for girls and women to grow, thrive, and prosper. SSEOA works to empower communities in Afghanistan through education, especially for girls, promotes peace through education, and conveys the importance of these activities all around the country. Our mission is to empower Afghans, especially girls and women in the remote regions of Afghanistan by creating educational opportunities and livelihood skills because SSEOA has a firm belief that without educating girls, peace and prosperity is not possible.

SSEOA boasts a team of highly qualified professionals renowned for their discipline, organization, efficiency, and extensive tenure within both national and international organizations. The team is spearheaded by an Executive Body comprising of the Executive Director, Deputy Director, Program Director, Finance Manager, and Program Manager, each bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. At the helm of strategic governance stands SSEOA's Board of Directors, comprising five distinguished members renowned for their extensive experience working with the government and NGO sector.

Job Description

 Position Summary

The Finance Assistant will support the finance team in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Finance Assistant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Financial Transactions & Record Keeping

  • Assist in processing daily financial transactions (payments, receipts, and journal entries).
  • Maintain proper filing of financial documents (both hard and soft copies).
  • Ensure all supporting documents are complete, accurate, and properly approved.

Cash & Bank Management

  • Assist in managing petty cash and ensure proper reconciliation.
  • Prepare cash and bank payment vouchers.
  • Support bank reconciliations on a regular basis.

Budget & Reporting Support

  • Assist in budget tracking and monitoring expenditures.
  • Support preparation of financial reports as required.
  • Ensure expenditures are in line with approved budgets.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with organizational financial policies and procedures.
  • Support adherence to donor rules and regulations.
  • Assist during internal and external audits by providing required documentation.

Payroll & Taxation

  • Assist in payroll preparation and salary payments.
  • Ensure proper withholding and remittance of taxes in accordance with government laws.

Procurement & Coordination

  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams on payment-related matters.
  • Verify financial aspects of procurement documents.

Reporting and Supervision

The Finance Assistant will report directly to the Finance Manager and will work closely with other departments.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting.
  • Experience with NGOs/INGOs is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel, or similar).
  • Good understanding of financial rules and procedures.

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong ability to manage and meet multiple tasks.
  • Proactive approach and desire to learn.
  • Flexible in working hours ensure your functions are covered during your absence at any time
