Shelter for Life International (SFL) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-profit and international faith-based organization. It has been working in Afghanistan since 1998 and is presently managing long-term and short-term humanitarian and development programs to the people in need in countries around the world. SFL is currently operational in Afghanistan, Liberia, South Sudan, Senegal and Tajikistan. Our Headquarters is located in Minnetonka, MN and funded by multiple donors such as BPRM, USG, USDA, WFP and FAO. Job Description

A Project foreman is a skilled and technical who is responsible for all project activities in the field.  He is responsible to directly manage implementation of project activities, plans, schedule, manage all the tasks of their assigned project to assure accuracy, proper resources, and quality from start to finish.

A project foreman oversees all aspects of an assigned project, including planning, implementing, and assisting with the Project engineer. He spends time at the job site ensuring work is completed efficiently with no errors or negative impacts on the timeline. The Project foreman also provides project progress reports to all and facilitates communication throughout the project’s lifecycle, as well in case of any challenges/problems identified at the activity area during the project implementation period he must report to the project site engineer or project manager, other tasks which assigned by project manager and or project engineer if needed.

Job Requirements

  • Having good behavior with community people especially with skilled/unskilled labors and beneficiaries.
  •  Having good leadership skills and ability to communicate and report effectively.
  •  Supervise and coordinate daily construction activities to ensure work is completed according to project plans and schedules.
  • Assign tasks and provide guidance to skilled and unskilled workers at the project site.
  • Ensure all construction works comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, and quality standards.
  • Monitor labor productivity and the efficient utilization of materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Report daily progress, challenges, and resource requirements to the Project Engineer or Project Manager
  • Verify that construction materials delivered to the site meet the required specifications and quantities.
  • Assist in resolving on-site technical issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including attendance, daily work logs, and material usage.
  • Excellent knowledge of surveying, Estimation and calculations.
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards
  •  Able to solving community and project challenges.
  •  Selection of skilled/unskilled labors with coordination of field responsibilities and assistance of related selection committee.
  •  Prepare and take the daily attendance sheet and make sure the labors’ presence.
  •  Make sure the foods safety in the warehouse and report to the project manager in case of any problems.
  •  Manage and help the distribution team in distribution of food for the labors.
  • Excellent knowledge of surveying, Estimation and calculations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by line supervisor and project manager.

Qualification/Requirements:

·         Minimum 4 Years of relevant experience with International NGOs or UN Agencies

·         Have a good ability of technical surveying, analysis of project as per effectiveness and impact of projects and also Site Selection of projects. 

·         Previous experience working with data collection, surveying, designing and analysis preferred (both quantitative and qualitative).

·         Experience using / processing data software (Ms. Office package, designing programs (Auto Cad)

·         Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto; English language proficiency is required.

·         Ability or experience of data verification and analysis.

·         Having strong report writing skills.    

·         Good communication skill and able to pass the massage/questions in local languages to the respondents.

·         Have good interpersonal skills and ability to plan work.

·         Supervisory, team worker, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

·         Regional and cultural knowledge of areas of SFL field operations in Afghanistan

·         Willingness to work long hours when required

·         Ability and willingness to travel to the project sites and outside of duty station within Afghanistan and adjust to the SFL environment as frequently as required

·         Honest, proactive, well mannered, and must share values of SFL.

·         Willing to stay in field locations

·         Ready to work, live and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment

  •        Preference will be given to those candidates who are local residents and are familiar with the project implementation area and communities and who have sufficient experience in RFS project implementation.
