Agriculture Team Leader (Subject to Donor's Approval)

Shelter for Life International (SFL) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-profit and international faith-based organization. It has been working in Afghanistan since 1998 and is presently managing long-term and short-term humanitarian and development programs to the people in need in countries around the world. SFL is currently operational in Afghanistan, Liberia, South Sudan, Senegal and Tajikistan. Our Headquarters is located in Minnetonka, MN and funded by multiple donors such as BPRM, USG, USDA, WFP and FAO. SFL has rich experience and provides assistance in the following areas; Agriculture Development, Food Security, livelihood and emergency, Shelter and Population Settlement, Application of Microcredit, Infrastructure Development and Health and Nutrition.

The Agriculture Team Leader is responsible for leading and supervising the implementation of agricultural activities across targeted districts of Ghazni province. The role includes coordinating field operations, overseeing surveys and beneficiary selection, supervising field staff, ensuring quality implementation of project activities, and liaising with local authorities, WFP, and other stakeholders. The position requires frequent field travel, strong leadership, technical expertise in agriculture, and the ability to ensure timely and effective project delivery.

• Lead and supervise the implementation of agricultural project activities across targeted districts, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee field assessments, surveys, and beneficiary selection in accordance with approved criteria and project guidelines.
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to agriculture field staff and ensure effective implementation of agricultural interventions.
• Lead the planning and delivery of technical training for project beneficiaries on climate-smart agriculture, vegetable production, greenhouse management, and other relevant practices.
• Monitor and support the establishment and maintenance of greenhouses, kitchen gardens, nurseries, and other agricultural activities to ensure quality standards.
• Coordinate with local authorities, community leaders, WFP, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project implementation.
• Conduct regular field monitoring, identify implementation challenges, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Ensure accurate data collection, documentation, and timely submission of weekly, monthly, and other required project reports.
• Support project planning, budgeting, and work plan implementation in collaboration with the Project Manager.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager in support of project objectives.

Qualification/ Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture (Master's degree preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience with International NGOs, UN agencies, or development organizations, including experience in supervising agricultural projects.
• Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on agriculture and rural livelihood projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of crop production, greenhouse management, kitchen gardening, climate-smart agriculture, and farmer training.
• Proven leadership, team management, coaching, and supervisory skills.
• Experience in beneficiary targeting, field assessments, data collection, verification, analysis, and report writing.
• Strong planning, budgeting, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with communities, government authorities, WFP, and other stakeholders.
• Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto; working knowledge of English is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with the social, cultural, and agricultural context of Takhar and Badakhshan provinces or other SFL operational areas.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively to project sites, work in remote locations, and remain in the field as required.

• Afghan nationality is required.
• Preference will be given to candidates from the project area who have strong knowledge of local communities and demonstrated experience in implementing WFP- or RFS-funded agricultural projects.
