The IRC opened the country program in Afghanistan in 1988. Job Description

To ensure the effective implementation of the vaccination programmed and achieve adequate vaccination coverage among the target populations within the health facility catchment area and outreach locations.

Key Duties:

  • Maintain professional and respectful conduct with health facility staff and clients, while respecting local culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Implement and support newly introduced development programmes and activities.
  • Remain committed to assigned duties and comply with established organizational rules and regulations.
  • Actively participate in relevant training sessions and transfer acquired knowledge and skills to other health facility staff in accordance with the facility's internal training plan.
  • Adhere to professional duties and comply with medical and clinical regulations and procedures established at the health facility.
  • Ensure the provision of immunization services to target groups according to the established schedule at both fixed health facilities and outreach sites.
  • Remain updated on new national guidelines, policies, and recommendations related to the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).
  • Ensure strict compliance with cold chain requirements, including regular monitoring and accurate control of vaccine refrigerator temperatures in accordance with EPI standards.
  • Strengthen and expand immunization services for target populations within the community through both fixed-site and outreach activities.
  • Ensure accurate registration and documentation of all fixed-site and outreach activities, prepare monthly reports, and provide the required data for consolidation into HMIS reports.
  • Develop and organize outreach plans and actively participate in National Immunization Days (NIDs) and other vaccination campaigns.
  • Ensure the proper storage, protection, and management of vaccines and immunization-related equipment and strictly follow Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards.
  • Participate in individual and group health education sessions and deliver key health messages to clients and targeted community groups.
  • Promote and encourage community members to access and utilize EPI and routine immunization services.
  • Maintain positive and respectful relationships with clients and contribute to creating a welcoming and trusting environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments and staff within the health facility.
  • Actively participate in community-based programmes and maintain close coordination with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and other community health personnel.
  • Continuously improve professional knowledge and skills through regular review of national immunization guidelines and technical references.
  • Prepare and submit monthly vaccine stock, consumption, and requisition reports for the health facility.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and carry out other official duties assigned by management.
  • Support injection-related services and assist with the completion of IMCI cards for patients, as required.
  • Ensure timely reporting of EPI target diseases and Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI).
  • Actively participate in the implementation of new Quality Improvement (QI) standards and initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • At least graduated from high school or have diploma in Midwifery
  • Must possess a valid certificate of completion for a 21-day EPI training.
  • At least 1 - 2 years of professional experience in relevant field
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills,
  • Experience working in humanitarian sector is an asset – specifically in EPI programs
  • Proactive and ability to work with multicultural team would be highly appreciated
  • Ability to communicate effectively in local languages both verbally and in writing.
  • Communication and reporting skills
