Nutrition Trainer

Your Voice Organization (YVO) was established in 2019 as a non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental organization, registered under the NGO laws of Afghanistan. Job Summary

The Nutrition Trainer will provide practical nutrition training and ongoing community-level support to women caregivers, households with children aged 6–24 months, community members, and selected community volunteers. The position aims to improve household food security, dietary practices, and nutrition outcomes through maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN/IYCF), appropriate feeding practices, dietary diversity, hygiene, food safety, and optimal use of household food and nutrition support.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop/adapt and deliver nutrition training modules and materials in coordination with YVO.
• Prepare practical, culturally appropriate training methodologies for community-level female participants.
• Conduct structured training for selected female community volunteers on key nutrition messages.
• Build volunteers’ capacity to communicate nutrition messages clearly and effectively.
• Conduct nutrition awareness sessions for women/caregivers on maternal and child nutrition, IYCF, complementary feeding from 6 months, breastfeeding, dietary diversity, responsive feeding, malnutrition prevention, referral, food hygiene, handwashing, and use of food assistance/nutrition top-ups.
• Promote nutrition-sensitive use of poultry products, especially eggs, in coordination with the livelihood/agriculture team.
• Use participatory adult-learning approaches such as demonstrations, group discussions, Q&A, role plays, and practical exercises.
• Assess participants’ understanding before and after training where appropriate.
• Coordinate with Project Officer, Community Mobilizers, MEAL team, Livelihood/Poultry team, and community volunteers.
• Support beneficiary identification, verification, data collection using KOBO/KOBO Toolbox, PDM, household interviews, and field monitoring.
• Maintain attendance and training records and submit brief training/session and field activity reports.
• Document key achievements, challenges, participant feedback, and recommendations.
• Report beneficiary-related concerns, data discrepancies, protection/safeguarding concerns, or other issues to the Project Officer.
• Promote and ensure a safe, respectful, inclusive environment and adhere to YVO safeguarding/PSEA policies.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Food and Nutrition, Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, or another closely related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in nutrition education, community nutrition, public health nutrition, or related programming.
• Demonstrated experience delivering nutrition training and awareness sessions to communities, preferably women and caregivers.
• Practical knowledge of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and nutrition for children aged 6–24 months.
• Experience in training of trainers (ToT) or capacity building of community volunteers.
• Strong understanding of maternal and child nutrition, complementary feeding, dietary diversity, malnutrition prevention, food hygiene and food safety, and community-based nutrition awareness.
• Experience working with humanitarian or development organizations in Afghanistan is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills; ability to explain nutrition concepts in simple, practical, culturally appropriate language.
• Fluency in Pashto is required; knowledge of Dari and English is an advantage.
• Good interpersonal and community engagement skills.
• Ability to work respectfully with women, caregivers, and vulnerable households.
• Basic computer skills and report-writing ability.
• Ability to work in rural and remote areas.
