Background:

Afghan Community Research & Empowerment Organization for Development (ACREOD) was founded in 2010. The organization is registered with the Ministry of Economy under license number 1723. ACREOD is a 14-year-old national organization working to fight poverty and social injustice in Afghanistan, focusing on empowering women and girls. We work with communities to understand the roots of poverty and find innovative, local solutions. ACREOD seeks to demonstrate the results and methods used in our projects to ensure transparency and accountability and improve the quality of work.

Job Descriptions:

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Outreach and Engagement:

  • Regularly visiting and meeting with diverse community groups, organizations, and leaders to build relationships and understand their needs and concerns.
  • Organizing public forums, town halls, and focus groups to facilitate open dialogues on issues impacting social cohesion.
  • Attending community events, celebrations, and gatherings to connect with residents and promote the work of the social cohesion office.
  • Developing and disseminating informational materials to raise awareness about social cohesion initiatives.
  • Partnering with local media outlets to amplify messaging and engagement efforts.

Program and Project Management:

  • Conducting comprehensive needs assessments and asset mapping to identify priority areas for intervention.
  • Designing, implementing, and overseeing various programs and initiatives, such as:
  • Intercultural exchange and dialogue workshops
  • Mentorship and youth development programs
  • Neighborhood beautification and community cleanup projects
  • Small grants for community-led cohesion activities
  • Coordinating cross-sector collaborations and partnerships to leverage resources and expertise.
  • Monitoring program participation, outputs, and outcomes, and making adjustments as needed.

Policy Development and Advocacy:

  • Reviewing existing municipal policies, procedures, and services through a "social cohesion lens."
  • Proposing new policies, bylaws, or changes to address barriers to inclusion and belonging.
  • Advocating for the prioritization of social cohesion within the local government agenda.
  • Educating elected officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders on the importance of social cohesion.
  • Providing expert input and recommendations to inform strategic planning and decision-making.

Capacity Building and Training:

  • Developing and delivering training workshops for municipal staff, community organizations, and residents on topics like conflict resolution, cultural competence, and inclusive facilitation.
  • Coaching and mentoring community leaders to strengthen their ability to foster social cohesion.
  • Collaborating with academic institutions or research partners to develop and disseminate best practices.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Establishing meaningful performance indicators and data collection mechanisms.
  • Conducting regular program evaluations and impact assessments.
  • Documenting and sharing lessons learned, successes, and challenges.
  • Reporting on progress and outcomes to funders, elected officials, and the broader community.

 

Job Requirements:

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • University/College degree
  • a minimum of 2 years of continuous professional’s experience in the relevant field.
  • Good Administration organizational and management skills and good leadership qualifications.
  • Good political knowledge of context.
  • Good report/proposal writing skills.
  • Language: Fluent in English Pashto and Dari (spoken and written).
