Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

The Disability Inclusion officer will work on integrating and mainstreaming disability across the UNFPA interventions in Afghanistan and provide expert and context specific advice on this to IMC and respective UNFPA partners. This officer will oversee the integration of disability inclusion across all program activities, provide targeted training to IMC staff and UNFPA partners, and ensure accurate and comprehensive reporting on disability inclusion efforts. By having a dedicated officer, we can ensure that the specific needs of women with disabilities are consistently addressed, and that our programs are both inclusive and effective. S/He will work closely with the Program managers and technical Coordinator, who will guide /provide expertise in integrating and mainstreaming disability inclusion across all UNFPA funded interventions.reporting on disability inclusion efforts. By having a dedicated officer, we can ensure that the specific needs of women with disabilities are consistently addressed, and that our programs are both inclusive and effective. S/He will work closely with the Program managers and technical Coordinator, who will guide /provide expertise in integrating and mainstreaming disability inclusion across all UNFPA funded interventions.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to the project team
  • Knowledge management and knowledge sharing
  • Provide technical support to the project team
  • Provide advice and support to the Project Managers and the officers in the Implementation of the key inclusion of people with disability components across the PSS intervention.
  • Provide advice and support to the technical staff and partners working within the respective field offices.
  • Analyze and ensure the interventions are sensitive to issues of inclusion of disadvantaged population groups/people with special needs.
  • Support in updating and sharing with staff recent developments and knowledge tools in the areas of interventions.
  • Develop training and promotional materials for disability inclusion trainings initiatives.
  • Conduct service mapping and develop referral pathways to help strengthen right referral and follow up of people with disability.
  • Attend IMC and UNFPA planned capacity building training and activities.
  • Work closely with other program staff members to build a professional and cohesive collaboration.
  • Support the technical team with additional requirements in reference to disability inclusion interventions.
  • Represent IMC in the related AoR working groups and subcommittees.

Monitoring and reporting:

  • Monitor and report on the project related disability inclusion activities including training in the area bi -weekly, monthly and quarterly.
  • Provide information to be updated in Atlas for the Crisis response projects.

Networking and Coordination:

  • Liaise with key national and internationals stakeholders, key provincial/ community leaders, international NGOs, UN partners and donors in the area to facilitate and enhance contribution towards the implementation of the disability inclusion agenda.
  • Attend/disability inclusion related conferences and seminars as directed by the supervisors
  • Represent IMC in the Protection and related AoR Technical Working Groups (TWGs) and FSL and education working group.

Knowledge management and sharing:

  • Lead in forums that promote inclusivity Knowledge management and knowledge sharing
  • Provide brief updates on the development disability related issues in Afghanistan.
  • Help in data collection, compiling lessons learned, establishing indicators to support knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in the development of concept notes, project documents and policy frameworks and research area on disability inclusion issues for best practices as directed by supervisor.
  • Support in writing stories related to program and project developments as they relate to disability inclusion.
  • Develop a disability inclusion checklist of gender sensitive indicators to be used by all departments while carrying out their work.
  • Perform other work-related outputs as requested by the supervisor and the senior management

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Education with Psychosocial skills preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in disability inclusion and FSL or advocacy for people with disability with NGOs/INGOs.
  • Good reporting and writing skills.
  • Entrepreneurship and apprenticeship skills
  • Experience in disability inclusion and, FSL or advocacy for with people with disability
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.
  • Fluency in written English and spoken Dari, Pashtu

Competency:

  • Identifies and communicates relevant information for a variety of audiences for IMC’s
  • Formulate written information clearly and  persuasively.
  • Contributes results through primary FGDs and desk reviews.
  • Maintains an established network of contacts for general information sharing and to remain up to- date.
  • Generates new ideas and approaches, research best practices and proposes new, more effective ways of doing things.

Relationships: Has good interpersonal relationships with (community leaders, supervisors, Community Focal Points etc.)

Professionalism: Has knowledge and understanding of project implementation strategies and approaches, SOPs, and project monitoring systems. Ability to think critically, work under pressure, meet commitments/deadlines, and show persistence in facing challenges.

Teamwork: Committed to working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve project tasks for the team. Willing to learn from others and open to giving and receiving feedback.

Flexibility/adaptability: This requires the candidate to have sufficient capacity to adapt to the IMC work methodology as well as to different work environments (office and field) that the candidate might have later during a mission.
