War Child’s flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women, and their families through its Justice, Education, Health, and Livelihood (Opportunity) program with child protection and gender across its entire program. The country program is undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in eight provinces Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh, Samangan, and Sar-e-Pul Provinces.

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

The Child Protection Case Worker will be responsible to identify, manage, and facilitate Child Protection case management within the targeted communities. The CPCW will be responsible for building capacity of the Community Mobilizers/Social Workers and CFS facilitators to help the CPCW in identification of cases and support the case management process. The CPCW will be mainly responsible for providing case management services consisting of Identification, assessment, planning, implantation, follow-up, and case closure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Child Protection Case Worker responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Case Identification and Management
  • Identify and register vulnerable children in need of protection, including those requiring specialized services through referrals.
  • Provide individual case management following established steps and tools, including intake, assessments, counseling, case planning, referrals, and follow-ups.
  • Ensure case management aligns with Case Management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices in child protection.
  • Maintain detailed, up-to-date, and confidential documentation for each case, adhering to child safeguarding policies.
  1. Psychosocial Support and Counseling
  • Identify and refer children and families, in need of counseling and psychosocial support addressing specific protection needs.
  • Facilitate access to mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services through direct provision or referrals.
  1. Community Engagement and Awareness
  • Conduct awareness sessions with community members, elders, and children on child protection, rights, and safeguarding issues.
  • Mobilize community leaders to foster a protective environment for children and engage in project activities.
  • Establish early relationships with community leaders and provide orientation on the project’s child protection objectives.
  1. Coordination and Referrals
  • Coordinate with external service providers, CPAN, D-CPAN, MoLSA, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure children’s access to specialized services.
  • Collaborate with the project team (e.g., Community Mobilizers, PSS Counselors, and Child-Friendly Space (CFS) Facilitators) in the establishment and effective operation of CFSs.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting
  • Regularly update case action plans, ensuring accountability and alignment with project goals.
  • Collect and analyze relevant case information through interviews with children, families, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide timely inputs to the Program Quality Assurance & Learning (PQAL) team and prepare accurate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for the Provincial Coordinator.
  1. Project Support and Compliance
  • Support the development and implementation of work plans for community mobilization activities.
  • Participate in relevant meetings to represent the organization and advocate for child protection needs.
  • Ensure compliance with child safeguarding policies, including the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy.
  1. Additional Responsibilities
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen support for vulnerable children and their families.
  • Assist in household identification and selection for community development in targeted areas.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, aligned with the project’s scope and objectives.

Job Requirements:

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Social Work, Law, or another relevant technical field
  • Master’s degree will be considered a plus point

Experience:

  • At least 4 Years of work experience preferably with NNGOs or INGOs in Child Protection Case Management including direct work with local communities
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children and families, including conducting assessments, case identification, and providing referrals.
  • Previous experience in community engagement, awareness campaigns, and mobilization activities.
  • Experience working in coordination with government bodies (e.g., CPAN, MoLSA), local authorities, and humanitarian organizations is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good Communication and interpersonal skills including reporting writing
  • Good knowledge of community development especially working with children, women and families
  • Excellent problem solving and presentation skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meeting of deadlines
  • Culture sensitive and respect for local norms
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of the cases
  • Willingness to travel and stay in remote areas and inhospitable environment
