Job Descriptions:

The MHPSS program provides essential mental health and psychosocial support to displaced and crisis-affected populations. The MHPSS Counselor, under the supervision of the Technical Supervisor and Regional Manager, ensures the effective implementation of MHPSS services in line with UNHCR & WADAN established policies and standards to enhance the well-being and resilience of persons in need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct mental health and psychosocial assessments for individuals and groups.
  • Identify mental health needs and vulnerabilities among returnees and displaced persons.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address mental health issues.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans for beneficiaries, including referrals to other services as needed.
  • Monitor beneficiary progress and adjust care plans accordingly.
  • Facilitate community awareness programs to reduce stigma around mental health and promote available services.
  • Engage with community leaders and stakeholders to foster a supportive environment for mental health initiatives.
  • Prepare regular reports on MHPSS activities, outcomes, and challenges for program evaluation.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with mental health issues within the returnees’ population. 
  • Perform any other relevant task as and when assigned by the MHPSS Technical Supervisor and Regional Manager

Job Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Psychology is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in providing MHPSS services, including counseling, case management, or community-based psychosocial support.
  • Strong understanding of MHPSS principles
  • Experience working with refugees, displaced persons and vulnerable populations is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, counseling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments and handle emergency cases.
  • Fluency in Dari and Pashto; English proficiency is an asset.
