The Environmental, Social, Health, and Safety (ESHS) Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, promoting the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and addressing social safeguard issues at all school construction sites. The officer will work closely with project teams, contractors, and local communities to enforce safety policies, prevent workplace hazards, and mitigate social risks. The role also involves conducting site inspections, risk assessments, and community engagement to promote a safe and inclusive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Enforce PPE compliance among workers, ensuring proper use and availability.
Conduct regular health and safety inspections and implement corrective actions.
Identify and address social risks, including labor rights, community concerns, and gender issues.
Ensure workers' welfare, including access to sanitation, clean drinking water, and fair labor practices.
Develop and implement emergency response and evacuation plans.
Conduct safety training and awareness programs for workers and project stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with donor and government regulations related to safety and social safeguards.
Maintain reports on site safety, social issues, and environmental compliance.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in environmental, social, health, and safety management, preferably in school construction or infrastructure projects.
Proven experience in PPE implementation, workplace safety training, and risk assessment.
Strong background in social safeguard policies, labor rights protection, and community engagement.
Experience in conducting safety audits, accident investigations, and emergency response planning.
Familiarity with national and international ESHS regulations and compliance standards.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of OHS regulations and PPE enforcement.
Experience in social safeguard policies and community engagement.
Ability to conduct risk assessments and safety audits.
Excellent communication and training skills.
Familiarity with national and international environmental, social, and safety standards.
