Job Descriptions:

Under the direct technical supervision of the Package Manager, she/he will accomplish the following key responsibilities:

  • Support the Provincial and Package Managers and staff on the issues related to the Environmental Safeguards in Balkh, Jowzajan, Saripul and Faryab provinces.
  • Ensure project activities comply with environmental legislation, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Monitor environmental risks and mitigation measures, develop and maintain environmental monitoring and planning tools for project interventions, and provide periodic reporting to the line manager.
  • Collect, analyse, and report environmental performance data in line with donor and organizational requirements.
  • Support the preparation of environmental safeguards reports for internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Consult with relevant stakeholders about environmental safeguards issues.
  • Work closely with communities, especially disadvantaged and marginalised groups (including women, female-headed households, the landless, disabled and elderly), to identify potential environmental impacts of project activities and promote environmental management, ensuring community understanding and ownership of safeguards measures
  • Promote resource efficiency and pollution prevention & management, including through staff training and community engagement on sustainable resource management and environmental practices.
  • Oversee occupational environmental and safety inductions, ensuring that laborers and community members on each sub project site are instructed on how to care about the environment and their safety.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the line manager

Job Requirements:

Education & Professional Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in social environmental science or or another relevant area or equivalent professional experience.

Work Experience

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in Community Driven Development projects. Familiar with community-based environmental safeguarding.

  • Excellent analytical, monitoring, and reporting skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to deal with difficult, often frustrating work situations.
