Job Description:

The Psychosocial Counsellor is responsible for providing individual and group counseling services to individuals experiencing emotional distress, trauma, or mental health challenges. The role supports clients in developing healthy coping strategies and promotes mental wellbeing using a survivor-centered and trauma-informed approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to clients, with a focus on trauma, stress, and psychosocial wellbeing.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop appropriate care or support plans.
  • Facilitate psycho education sessions and awareness activities on mental health, emotional well-being, and stress management.
  • Refer clients to appropriate medical, legal, or social services when necessary.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards in handling client information.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of sessions and progress.
  • Participate in case management meetings and coordination with other service providers.
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities.
  • Attend regular supervision and training sessions to strengthen counseling skills and knowledge.
  • Promote a supportive, non-judgmental, and safe environment for all clients.

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and mental health principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Familiarity with local context and cultural sensitivity.
  • Communication Skills in local languages
  • Organizational Behavior Skills
  • Pashto and Dari skills are required.
  • Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Commitment to MAWSO principles.
  • Comply with all relevant MAWSO policies and procedures.
  • Working with integrity and confidentiality whilst valuing the individual.
