Job Descriptions:

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities

A. Teacher Capacity Building

  • Develop, update, and contextualize training materials, session plans, and handouts in line with the MOE’s TLS Teacher Training Manual.
  • Deliver refresher and on the job trainings for TLS teachers on e.g., pedagogy, teaching and learning methodology, classroom management, lesson planning, child protection, EIE, inclusive education, psychosocial support and overall effective teaching and learning in TLSs.
  • Provide guidance on managing multi-grade classrooms and teaching in emergency/returnee contexts.

B. Coaching, Mentoring & Technical Support

  • Conduct regular classroom observations across TLS sites and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
  • Mentor teachers to strengthen instructional quality, classroom participation, and learning outcomes.
  • Offer on-the-job coaching to new, weak, or struggling teachers according to their needs.
  • Support teachers with lesson planning, assessment approaches, daily schedules, and classroom routines.

C. Quality Monitoring & Classroom Improvement

  • Ensure TLS classrooms adhere to UNICEF’s minimum learning standards, safety, and child-friendly practices.
  • Monitor teacher attendance, performance, and compliance with TLS teaching guidelines.
  • Identify gaps in teaching quality and develop corrective action strategies in coordination with the field staff and regional office.
  • Support teachers in effective use of TLS related teaching and learning materials.
  • Work closely with District Education Officer, and field teams to support overall TLS functionality.

D. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain training attendance sheets, evaluation forms, and progress records for all teachers.
  • Prepare and report daily and monthly mentoring progress with the Program Manager.
  • Document classroom findings and follow-up actions after each observation visit.
  • Contribute inputs for quarterly donor reports, success stories, and capacity-building summaries.
  • Knowledge of digital technology and familiarity with KOBO Toolbox is required.

 

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Pedagogy, Psychology, or a related field (required).
  • Additional training certificates in teaching or EiE (Education in Emergencies) are an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a teacher trainer.
  • Experience working with humanitarian or development education projects preferred.
  • Experience conducting trainings, teacher mentoring, and classroom observation.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of teaching methodologies, inclusive education, classroom management etc.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to mentor, supervise, and motivate teachers.
  • Understanding of child protection, Psycho social support PSS, safeguarding, PSEA and inclusive education.
  • Ability to conduct frequent field visits and work in remote areas.
  • Fluency in Dari and Pashto is mandatory, with basic proficiency in English required.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent travel to remote villages and TLS centers within Ghazni, Paktya and Parwan districts.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments.
  • Must comply with AYEHO and UNICEF security and safeguarding policies.
