Job Descriptions:

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 
Level 3:  The role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: 
As part of our CO humanitarian strategy for 2024, Save the Children CO wants to improve the efficient deployment of high-quality staff to support the delivery of our Humanitarian Responses directly and in collaboration with SCI partners. This role will be rapidly deployed by the CO to support the response team in quickly developing and implementing a humanitarian-response. 

The Health & Nutrition Coordinator will continue the work already started by an existing Emergency Response Team. S/he will focus on inter-agency sector level coordination, involvement national/subnational nutrition assessment and nutrition integration strategy roll out within SC programme operations. S/he will work closely with other members of the PDQ team and in coordination with other nutrition actors to design appropriate, child focused, contextually relevant nutrition programming, ensuring integration with SC’s existing experience in country and ensuring SC voice at sector level is present.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Sector level coordination: 
•    Provide sector level leadership at the Health and Nutrition sector. Ensure Save the Children has a leading voice in the health and nutrition sector. Attending all relevant meetings and ensuring strong influence, and updating Technical Specialist, PDQD and RTL accordingly. 
•    Lead conversations with existing health and nutrition actors to get better picture of situation and potential gaps in the medium/long term (key stakeholders, WHO, UNICEF, FAO, WFP, MoA, MoH, MoE).
Sector level oversight on the assessment: 
•    Within the health and nutrition sector, support the implementation of a nationwide health and nutrition assessment (which SC is partly funding). Ensure adherence to agreed assessment plan, and work with other inter-agency colleagues to ensure timely implementation and sharing of critical results. 
SC internal programming: 
•    Monitor and promote integration of health and nutrition activities for maximum impact Provide technical support as needed. 
•    Provide guidance on applying Resourcing Families for Better Nutrition and establish a work plan for its implementation with on-going activities. 
•    Provide ad hoc support to our FSL activities to ensure SC (and our partners’) food programming is nutritionally sound and takes into consideration the needs of pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as children under 5
•    Oversee implementation of clinical standards adherence during consultations.
•    Follow up of referred cases by IMHNTs with hospital to ensure that they have proper secondary medical care.
•    Lead field level implementation of Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams 
•    In collaboration with the MEAL team contribute to documentation and dissemination of lessons learned and best practice
Capacity Building and supervision
•    Identify learning and training opportunities for Save the Children staff and partners and work as a mentor and role model for less experienced staff. Together with other sectors, identify sector-integrated capacity building opportunities. 
•    Participate in trainings to improve medical performance for SCI staff and/or partners.
•    Provide joint supportive supervision to project sites, on the job training to IMHNT staff and undertake regular joint monitoring of the project activities.
•    Compile and generate the training reports conducted in provinces.
•    Conduct regular review of the response.

Non-Deployment activities 
•    Ensure the role out of Quality Clinical Care initiative to all health and nutrition program of the country office when not deployed.
•    With the support of PMs organize training and continuous support to core health and nutrition staff on familiarizing and consistent use of these quality clinical care initiatives tools.  
•    Clinical Supervision: conduct regular supportive supervision and ensure all similar supervisions are done using the CAS (clinical assurance score card).  
•    Ensure appropriate reporting of the work of the team meeting internal and donor requirements.
•    Ensure close review of humanitarian situation and beneficiary needs for designated program.
•    Together with the health TA, proactively participate in health cluster. 
•    Engage and maintain regular contact with other health related response mechanisms run by other partners.
•    Work with the field office management to ensure the RRM response is integrated into the overall humanitarian program and supports early recovery and long-term plans.
•    Provide technical support to existing CO programs remotely and through in-country visits. 
•    Contribute to joint business development activities between the Emergency Health Unit and PDQ. 
•    Support health/nutrition-related operational research as required.
•    Any other tasks assigned through EHU initiatives.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sector
  • Health & Nutrition in emergency experience.
  • Strong experience in sector level leadership/coordination, representing Save the Children in a complex coordination environment.
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience in fields of nutrition, humanitarian health, food security.
  • Demonstrable understanding of international humanitarian response architecture, co-ordination mechanisms, humanitarian reform and action.
  • High-level communication skills, including ability to speak formally, negotiate, demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and advocate for child protection issues with humanitarian community and authorities.
  • Highly developed programme design skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated experience in building capacity of teams and staff.
  • Fluency in English
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children International.
  • Ability to work well in a team and under pressure and in response to changing needs.
  • Ability to plan well, set own targets and meet them.
