About MEDAIR:

Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district.  The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend the utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs, and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.

Job Descriptions:

Specific responsibilities

  • Represent Medair in Kandahar for coordination meetings with government ministries, NGOs, and communities
  • Provide technical support and training to Senior Food Security Assistants in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Implement household level assessments and market surveys to complete beneficiary identification and contribute towards the trust of and communication with selected partners in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Conduct food assistance cash and hygiene kits distributions in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Give high quality and participatory trainings at the community level during distributions in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Prepare trainings, ensuring IEC materials are ready on time and processed correctly in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Ensure data collection and reporting documents (surveys, selection, distribution) are completed and submitted accurately and on time in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Provide daily and weekly cash distribution reports to the management team in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Check all needed documents and materials for cash distributions before starting cash distributions in Kandahar and Uruzgan.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Immediate notification of any suspicion of fraudulent activity amongst staff and external links.
  • Adherence to Medair values and to contribute to the wellbeing of the team as an active member.
  • Adherence to relevant legal framework of Afghanistan.
  • Adherence to all national staff regulations and Security Standard Operating Procedures and always maintain confidentiality.
  • Adherence to Afghan NGO Law and Tax Law.

 

Technical

  • Meet with government authorities, ministry staff (DAIL and DoEC), and community leaders to ensure coordination, acceptance and official approval of Medair’s food security programs in Kandahar.
  • Adhere to comprehensive activity plan (GANTT) for the duration of the project. 
  • Support beneficiary selection activities (baseline survey, house to house survey, market survey) in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Support high quality cash distributions in Kandahar and Uruzgan.
  • Ensure accurate data collection.
  • Assist in monitoring programme activities and ensure beneficiary feedback is addressed and recorded.

 

General

  • Support the timely completion of project activities and support the Food Security Manager in maintaining clear up-to-date records.
  • Follow procurement and logistics procedures, ensuring financial accountability.
  • Ensure beneficiary accountability is carried out and report any feedback to the Food Security Manager.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in agriculture or a related subject

 

Relevant experience

  • 4 years of relevant work experience

 

Languages

  • Fluent in spoken & written Pashto
  • Excellent English oral and written skills

 

Computer

  • Basic working skills with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Other Skills:

  • Enthusiastic to work for an international NGO, to assist vulnerable communities in Kandahar and Uruzgan Provinces
  • Willing to learn new things and be trained further
  • Interest to participate in CVA trainings
  • Experience working in a team.
