Position Overview

The Chief Inspector of Processing is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the inspection and quality control processes associated with the processing of crude oil and other petroleum products. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in processing operations, quality assurance methodologies, and regulatory compliance within the oil and gas industry. The Chief Inspector will lead a team of inspectors, ensuring that all production processes adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies, while continuously seeking opportunities for process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection and Quality Control

  • Oversee and manage all inspection activities related to the processing of crude oil, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive inspection plans and protocols to monitor processing operations and maintain product quality.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of processing facilities, equipment, and operations to identify potential issues and ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Review and analyze inspection reports, identifying trends and areas for improvement, and developing action plans to address any non-conformances.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of inspectors, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure their success in maintaining quality control.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and quality awareness among the inspection team and other stakeholders within the production department.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular training sessions for inspection personnel to keep them updated on industry best practices, standards, and regulatory changes.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing the processing of crude oil and other petroleum products.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices, including API specifications and ISO standards.
  • Prepare and submit necessary documentation and reports to regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and accurate communication of compliance metrics.

Process Improvement Initiatives

  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to identify opportunities for process improvements that enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Lead root cause analysis for processing issues, implementing corrective actions and preventive measures to mitigate future occurrences.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to processing quality and develop strategies to achieve or exceed quality targets.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the production and engineering teams to provide input on processing design, equipment selection, and operational practices that impact product quality.
  • Collaborate with the HSE department to ensure that quality control processes align with health, safety, and environmental standards, minimizing risks to personnel and operations.

Participate in project planning and design reviews to assess quality considerations and potential impacts on processing activities.

Job Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications in quality control or inspection is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in processing operations and quality control within the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of processing methods, quality assurance methodologies, and regulatory compliance related to crude oil processing.
  • Certifications: Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or similar certifications are preferred.
