Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

To provide psychological and emotional support to clients at the OST Centre, helping them overcome substance dependency, address mental health challenges, and reintegrate into society as healthy and productive individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Psychosocial Support:

    • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for clients undergoing opioid substitution therapy.
    • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to clients facing acute challenges.
    • Develop tailored psychosocial plans for clients based on their individual needs and circumstances.
  2. Assessment and Monitoring:

    • Perform psychosocial assessments during client intake and ongoing treatment.
    • Monitor clients' progress, mental health status, and overall well-being.
    • Identify and address any barriers to clients' adherence to therapy.
  3. Awareness and Education:

    • Educate clients and their families about substance use disorders, harm reduction, and relapse prevention strategies.
    • Conduct awareness sessions on mental health, coping mechanisms, and stress management.
  4. Collaboration:

    • Work closely with medical professionals, social workers, and the OST Centre team to ensure holistic care.
    • Refer clients to appropriate external services or resources when specialized care is needed.
    • Facilitate communication between clients and their families, where applicable, to strengthen support networks.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including session notes and progress reports.
    • Prepare and submit periodic reports on counseling activities to the OST Centre Manager.
  6. Training and Development:

    • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance counseling skills and stay updated on best practices in psychosocial care.
    • Share knowledge and insights with the OST Centre team to promote continuous learning and improvement.
  7. Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to the centre's protocols, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality standards.
    • Stay updated on policies related to mental health and substance use treatment.

     8. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling programs and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare and submit regular activity and progress reports to supervisors or donors.
  • Monitor trends and emerging psychosocial issues to inform program design.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • A degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Professional certification or licensure as a counsellor is an asset.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in psychosocial counselling or a related role.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of psychosocial support principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust with diverse clients.
  • Proficient in developing individualized care plans and handling complex cases.
  • Knowledge of local languages and cultural sensitivities is highly desirable.

Working Conditions

  • This position may require field visits to remote or conflict-affected areas.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends when needed to support clients in crisis.
