Urban Health Initiative
The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of
people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other
vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead
by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities
in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
The Position of Vaccinator will be based in UHI priority HFs of Herat city and will work to provide
vaccination to client per NEPI plan.
Works under the direct supervision of cluster associate manager coordinates vaccination related tasks
with National EPI.
• the health facility level (Vaccination stations)
• Providing routine vaccine as per the NEPI plan
• Request, stock and store vaccines and other vaccination equipment including but not limited to
• cold chain equipment for their area of activity
• Prepare, organize and follow the guidelines for cold chain maintenance and vaccine storage
• Implementing, Registering, tallying the vaccination in daily bases and Preparing monthly reports to
• NEPI and Jhpiego as required.
• Cooperates with the health facility teams in ensuring vaccine safety, injection safety and infection
• prevention at the health facility level
• Preparing and submitting monthly attendance and time sheet to the relevant authority.
• Any other tasks given by line manager.
Graduated from 12th grade (Baccalaureate), with a preference for candidates with a medical or
vaccination background. Previous experience in a similar position and initial vaccination training is
preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, including strong writing,
analytical, and communication abilities in Dari, Pashto, and preferably English.
