Job Description:

A Medical Doctor is a key position in the Drug Treatment Center of the Drug Demand Reduction Treatment [DDR] Project. Its key role is to promote the health and safety of treatment center patients’ proactive treatment and diagnosis. Health is maintained and restored through the practice of medicine. A medical doctor examines her patients, go through their medical and drug use history, diagnose the illness and withdrawal syndromes, and administers the treatment. Besides, she counsels her patients on their health and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Site Project Coordinator and Project Coordinator - DDR, the incumbent of this position will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

• Diagnose the disease, prescribe the medicine, and keep the history and record of the patient’s medical interventions in their case files.
• Collect, record, and maintain sensitive patient information such as examination results, medical history, and reports and keep them in order.
• Promote health-related education of patients and staff members.
• Participate actively in the meeting aimed at comprehensive assessment/ evaluation of patients before admission and during treatment.
• Report the updates of patients’ condition and status to the Project Coordinator/ Center supervisor.
• Conduct regular and timely supervision of the patients.
• Provide necessary medical instructions to the Nurse and help in enhancing their working capacity.
• Supervise the patients closely, especially during the detoxification phase of the treatment.
• Play the role of a purchasing committee member while purchasing medicine for the center.
• Provide health checkup services to patients under a home-based treatment program.
• Conduct patients’ physical examinations prior to admission and under treatment.
• Refer patients to laboratory tests for medical investigation.
• Keep an eye on the hygiene of the food material and the kitchen.
• Conduct training and workshops on selected topics for the patients
• Attend the center for the night – shift and public holidays as scheduled by the project coordinator.
• Report center-related activities on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Any other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor or successor.

• Graduated from a registered medical university with 2 years of experience in the relevant field.
• Must possess knowledge of treating drug-addicted patients
• Proven ability to write reports and proposals.
• Ability to conduct training and capacity-building programs.
• Knowledge of the local community structure dynamics and Drug Treatment Centers.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in local languages.
• Ability to travel frequently to the program communities and visit the drug-addicted patients.
• Good computer skills.
