Afghan Midwives Association (AMA)

The AMA is the technical body for midwifery education, professional development and policies that enable every midwife in Afghanistan so midwives can practice the highest level of care for the mothers and new born of the country. The AMA is a member of key national and international forums. For example AMA is an active member of the Human Resource Development Task Force, National Reproductive Health Task Force, The Maternal New born Health committee, Afghan Women Network and Secretariat for National Nursing and Midwifery Steering Committee. Similarly, at regional and international level AMA is an active member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) for the safe motherhood and women empowerment; also member of the Asia Midwifery Regional Resource Centre.

Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose

As part of the MLMCC, the overall purpose of this position is to manage pharmaceutical storage, prescribed distribution and reporting based on schedule. The pharmacist/storekeeper is responsible for the medical part of his job to the MLMCC supervisor.

Key Accountabilities

To ensure proper storage and distribution of the project-stock of drugs and medical material and to ensure proper storage and stock-keeping of non-medical material stored in Nahib Aminullah Khan Hospital MLMCC. The main responsibilities are as follows:

    • Manage supply of pharmaceutical and medical consumable for MLMCC base on the supply request
    • Collect monthly consumption reports and share with inventory team at provincial level.
  • Regularly check stock cards of the MLMCC and work with the MLMCC head midwife and supervisor. 
  • Identify and report immediately any medical or administrative problems that may create issues for the project.
  • Counselling patients regarding appropriate use of medications.
  • Overseeing daily ordering, as well as automatic refills.
  • Dispensing or supervising the dispensation of medications and related supplies, according to physicians' prescriptions.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate patient effectiveness.
  • Collect and document any adverse effects of the prescribed medicines to project beneficiaries.
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly progress report of the activities to line manager.
  • Perform any other task given by line manager.

Job Requirements:

  1. Graduated from recognized intermediate institute of pharmacy.
  2. Have two-year’ experience of pharmaceuticals management in health facility or warehouse level.
  3. Good communication skill both in writing and oral in Dari/Pashtu essential.
  4. Communication skill in English oral and written desirable.
  5. Two positive references from previous employers or educators.
  6. Ability to communicate clearly and work well with others in a team environment.
  7. Strong commitment to midwifery profession and Midwifery Association (AMA).
