About French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children:

Since 2006, the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) in Kabul, Afghanistan, has served patients from all 34 provinces. Operated through a public-private partnership among the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de L’Espoir, and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), with management by the Aga Khan University, FMIC delivers world-class medical services and drives healthcare innovation in the region.

FMIC provides specialized consultations, advanced diagnostics (CT, MRI, radiology), surgeries, a 24/7 pharmacy, and state-of-the-art laboratory testing. It has recorded over 2.3 million patient visits and consultations, conducted 6.8 million laboratory tests, and performed 59,000 surgeries, including more than 5,700 paediatric and adult cardiac procedures. As Afghanistan’s first ISO and SafeCare-certified hospital (recertified in 2024), FMIC has pioneered open-heart surgery, advanced diagnostics, and telemedicine, earning the IHF Award in 2021.

With a 176-bed capacity and a highly skilled Afghan medical team, FMIC is committed to advancing healthcare excellence. Job Responsibilities:

  Objectives:

For Residents:

  • Assist residents with research activities, including but not limited to:
  • Develop, update, and improve the research curriculum.
  • Conducting courses on the basics of research, with a focus on clinical research.
  • Helping residents develop research proposals in line with MoPH and AKU requirements.
  • Reviewing and providing corrective feedback on residents' research proposals and activities.
  • Communicating and coordinating with MoPH and AKU regarding residents' research proposals and activities.
  • Conducting thesis development courses, including data analysis and data cleaning.
  • Ensuring final-year residents' theses are ready for presentation.
  • Maintaining records and files of all related activities.
  • Help residents in journal publications.

For Faculty:

  • Support faculty in their research activities, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting courses and/or training sessions on research, especially focusing on clinical research.
  • Providing technical assistance to faculty in clinical research.
  • Help faculty to publish their paperers in the local and international journals.
  • Assisting faculty in meeting MoPH research requirements to fulfill their academic titles.
  • Help faculty in planning and conducting journal clubs.
  • Help and conduct research seminars.

At the FMIC Level:

  • Plan and organize annual research conferences:
  • Forming an organizing committee for the annual conference.
  • Communicating and coordinating with stakeholders regarding the annual conference.
  • Ensuring the quality of the annual conference.
  • Collaborate with donors and the funding coordinator to secure funds for research activities.
  • Work with the quality assurance department on the Global Health standard those come under the JCIA requirements.
  • Ensure FMIC patient record data is well-organized for research activities.
  • Conduct IRB meetings/ works to fulfil this task.

At Research Department level:

  • Closely work with the head of research department.
  • Do need assessment of the PGME program regarding research resources and make sure the needed resources are available.
  • Maintain the resources and keep them updated.
  • Do all administrative works necessary at departmental level.
  • Planning for all above activities in coordination with PGME department
  • Perform any other activities assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Possess research experience and relevant certifications.
  • Be proficient in data analysis using SPSS.
  • Have at least 2 publications
  • Adapt to and follow the organization's policies and procedures.
