Introduction: Afghanischer Frauenverein e.V.: AFV is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political humanitarian aid organization registered with the Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan and has been working in the field of Education, Health, WASH, Vocational skills development, and humanitarian emergency response in Afghanistan since 1992. With a Country Office in Kabul and over 200 local staff members countrywide, AFV is implementing sustainable relief programs that are mainly in the rural areas, focusing on supporting children and their families in extreme poverty. Today AFV is engaged in over 21 relief programs serving over 200,000 people per year all over the country. The organization provides technical and financial support to five schools in Kabul, Kunduz and Ghazni provinces; runs vocational training courses for people with disability in Kabul and Ghazni; provides safe drinking water for poor communities in remotest parts of some provinces; supports seven Basic Health Clinics (BHCs) in Kabul Province; and delivers humanitarian assistance particularly in partnership with other local partners.

Job Descriptions:

General Description of Position

Under general supervision of the principal, this position will teach sections in the field of Islamic Studies to students in grades 4 to 6 and will aid in other school programs as assigned. This includes serving as an advisor to students and student clubs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● Has a passion for teaching Islamic Studies, both content and skills, to grades 4 to 6.

● Design curriculum for instruction and assessment based on Afghan and international standards.

● Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional materials. Adapts curricula in Islamic subjects to needs of students through individual and small group instruction through a variety of creative instructional activities.

● Institutes and upholds high standards of student conduct essential to providing an orderly, honest, and productive environment.

● Evaluates and communicates each student’s progress and growth in knowledge and comprehension through regular progress reports.

● Aids in the selection of teaching materials and is responsible for the inventory of classroom materials.

● Provides a supportive and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, clearly communicate classroom routines, and incorporate challenging and varied instructional strategies.

● Participates regularly and actively in meetings with other teachers and managers to provide input to and feedback on the implementation of the curriculum.

● Participates cooperatively with the principal on performance evaluations.

● Serves as a dorm associate living in the residence hall or assumes dorm coverage responsibilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Islamic studies teacher will be responsible for teaching the following subjects to the classes you assigned:

  1. Islamic Studies, which covers the following elements:
    • Tawheed (Unity of Allah)
    • Basic Beliefs of Islam
    • Morals and Ethics
    • History (The Seerah and the lives of notable personalities from Islamic

History e.g., Allah’s Prophets and the companions of the Prophet

Muhammad PBUH)

    • Essential Practices (Fiqha of ‘ibaadah)
  1. Qur’aanic Studies, which covers the following elements:
    • Qur’aanic recitation and tajweed (rules of its recitation)
    • Hifdh (Memorization)
    • Understanding its meanings (through a basic approach to the tafseer of the verses studied, making it relevant for their lives today and in the future)
  1. Arabic, which aims to help pupils attain proficiency in the following elements:
    • listening, speaking and understanding
    • reading
    • writing

General

  1. Cultivate and promote love for Islam and Islamic values within pupils;
  2. To have full knowledge of the school’s policies, aims, objectives and organizational procedures in such a way as to contribute positively, sensitively and harmoniously to their achievement;
  3. Take part in cover arrangements;
  4. Attend and, from time to time, deliver assemblies;
  5. Supervise pupils at periods before, during and after school as assigned on the appropriate rotes;
  6. Review from time to time their methods of teaching and programs of work and participate in arrangements for further training and professional development as a teacher, staying up to date with changes and developments in the National Curriculum;
  7. Consult with parents and be available for consultation by parents;
  8. Order competitively priced learning resources for the teaching-learning needs of their class, according to the school’s procedural policy;
  9. Organize the classroom environment and learning resources to create a positive learning environment;
  10. Maintain discipline according to the behavior management policy of the school;
  11. Work with parents and the wider school community to maximize their involvement in the school and the development of its resources, learning opportunities and curriculum;
  12. Perform any other duty allocated by the head teacher/principal and management from time to time, in line with the operational needs of the school.

Teaching

  1. Take responsibility for the progress and attainment of pupils in Islamic Studies, across the school;
  2. Teach, according to their educational needs and the school’s Islamic Studies curriculum, the pupils assigned to them, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupil at school or elsewhere;
  3. Undertake activities as may be necessary to carry out an assessment of pupil progress and levels of achievement, including the administration and supervision of tests or examinations as may be necessary;
  4. Provide reports on pupils and make relevant records and reports on the academic, personal and social needs and progress of the pupil;
  5. Promote the well-being and progress of each pupil;
  6. Plan, prepare and deliver schemes of work and lessons, that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within their class;
  7. Advise and co-operate with other teachers on the preparation, development, review and evaluation of schemes of work, teaching programmes, materials, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements;
  8. Motivate pupils with enjoyable and creative lessons that challenges pupils and promotes critical thinking;
  9. Regularly mark pupil work according to the school’s marking policy, to facilitate positive pupil development and academic progress;
  10. Provide feedback to parents on a pupil's progress at parents' evenings and other (often less formal) meetings/ phone calls.
  11. Provide robust subject leadership for the teaching of Islamic Studies at the school, in association with and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this area;
  12. Support the wider school curriculum and objectives by supporting non-curricular events out of school hours and after-school clubs whenever possible.
  13. Participate in team and staff meetings, trainings, workshops, coaching, mentoring and observing to raise standards;
