Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

The Health and Nutrition officer will oversee day-to-day implementation of health and nutrition program activities under the ECHO project in line with IMC standards as well as aligning programming to Basic package of Health services (BPHS) for Afghanistan.

He/she will work with health and nutrition staff within the HSCs or MHNTs and provide them with technical support.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act according to IMC organization policies and procedures.
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of all the health and nutrition activities within supported HSCs.
  • Conducting regular supportive supervision and monitoring of nutrition and health activities.
  • Support in capacity building of the health and nutrition teams on IMAM, MIYCN, IMCI and maternal health, identify training needs/gaps and conduct regular refresher and on job training sessions.
  • Collect and compile OPD SAM, OPD MAM and MIYCN reports and provide feedback to the team.
  • Regular submission of health and nutrition data and fulfilling of health and nutrition data entry in online databases.
  • Regular submission of weekly, biweekly, and monthly health and nutrition reports according to the stipulated deadlines
  • Development and maintenance of health and nutrition filling system at provincial and health facility level ensuring that accurate beneficiary records are maintained.
  • Guide nutrition staff to conduct food demonstration, Family MUAC and mass MUAC screening.
  • Facilitate MIYCN sensitization sessions for key influencers on a quarterly basis
  • Check that the medical and nutritional protocols are respected: admission and discharge criteria, frequency of measurement, distribution of nutrition products and systematic treatment protocols are followed.
  • Ensure proper filling of OPD, ANC, PNC, OPD SAM and MAM registers and referral forms and that anthropometric and nutritional data are entered correctly. 
  • Ensure that the health facilities keep updated stock of all essential supplies and requisitions for health and nutrition supplies are made in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the follow up of attendance and the punctuality of staff across all HSCs
  • Represent International Medical Corps in all health and nutrition meetings with MOPH, PHCC, PHD, PND, WFP, UNICEF and Partners within the districts and provincial level.
  • Monitor trends and update the manager/coordinator on areas of concern
  • Identify procurement needs and raise procurement requests on time for the HSCs.
  • Manage health and nutrition commodities (Drugs, nutrition commodities, NFIs, items for food demonstrations).
  • Perform other duties assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: 

  1. Afghan National.  
  2. MD graduated from a recognized medical faculty.   
  3. Knowledge of nutrition programs especially IMAM and MIYCN.

Experience:

  1. Must have minimum 3 years’ work experience as a health officer, health supervisor and or HMIS officer.

  3. Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in the implementation of nutrition, IMAM, and IMNCI programs in the BPHS or vertical project.

Competency:

  1. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  2. Humanitarian experience in medical and nutrition programs in Afghanistan (EPHS, BPHS, IMAM, IMCI IYCF)
  3. Conversation with Health and Nutrition Information Management Systems
  4. The candidate must have strong command in English, Dari and Pashto Languages.
  5. Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
