Organization for women empowerment (OWE) was established in 2014 as a non-profit and development organization - registered with the NGOs Department of the Ministry of Economy, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. OWE aims to help impoverished communities, particularly women, youth, and children to gain social, economical, and political potency through raising awareness, capacity building, educational and vocational skills training, and creating professional opportunities. OWE is a women’s organization for women. OWE's learning experience as a development organization comes from its working association with communities in different areas of Afghanistan. More importantly, OWE is one of the successful organizations in the community, NGOs Coordination Bureau, and region.
1. Objective of the Assignment
The objective of the Business Mentor role is to support MSME owners and key staff in applying improved business practices, resolving operational challenges, and strengthening market readiness through individualized mentoring.
2. Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
The Business Mentor will undertake the following tasks:
a. Mentoring Planning
- Review MSME profiles, needs assessment results, and training outputs.
- Develop a simple mentoring plan for each assigned MSME, aligned with identified gaps and priorities.
b. One-on-One Mentoring Sessions
- Conduct 3–4 mentoring sessions per MSME over the project period.
- Provide hands-on guidance on:
Business plan refinement and implementation
Financial management and cash-flow tracking
Marketing strategies and customer outreach
Operational problem-solving and productivity improvement
- Engage MSME owners and relevant staff to ensure institutional learning.
c. Action Planning and Follow-Up
- Support each MSME to develop a practical, time-bound action plan.
- Track progress against agreed actions and provide follow-up support.
- Identify challenges and propose corrective measures.
d. Coordination and Reporting
- Coordinate closely with OWE project staff and Master Trainer to ensure coherence between training and mentoring.
- Submit brief mentoring reports after each session, highlighting progress, challenges, and recommendations.
3. Deliverables
- Individual mentoring plans for assigned MSMEs.
- Completion of 3–4 mentoring sessions per MSME.
- Session reports and MSME action plans.
4. Duration and Level of Effort
Each MSME will receive mentoring over a period of approximately 4–6 months, with sessions conducted monthly or as agreed with OWE.
1. Required Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Management, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in MSME development, business advisory, or entrepreneurship support.
- Practical experience mentoring or coaching small businesses.
- Strong understanding of local markets and MSME challenges.
- Experience working with women-owned businesses is highly desirable.
- Good communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
