Afghanistan Development & Assistance Organization (ADAO) is a national NGO registered under the Ministry of Economy which is established 17 years ago (founded in 2006) by a group of committed and professional people to work on the development of Agriculture, sustainable livelihoods opportunities to support most vulnerable communities both urban and rural areas consequently will have access to better education, primary health care, good governance, and eventually improved sustainable community development in Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

The Fundraising and Proposal Writing Consultant will be responsible for identifying potential donors, developing funding opportunities, and writing high-quality project proposals to secure financial support for ADAO’s programs. The consultant will play a key role in expanding ADAO’s funding base, building relationships with donors, and ensuring timely submission of proposals in line with organizational priorities.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential donors, funding opportunities, and partnership possibilities for ADAO projects, including national and international organizations and private foundations.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with institutional and individual donors to secure sustainable funding.
  • Conduct in-depth research to identify new project ideas, funding trends, and emerging donor priorities in Afghanistan and the region.
  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality, compelling project proposals, concept notes, and grant applications in accordance with donor requirements and deadlines.
  • Ensure all proposals are strategically aligned with ADAO’s vision, mission, and programmatic priorities, reflecting organizational values and development goals.
  • Coordinate closely with ADAO program teams to gather comprehensive project information, including objectives, budgets, timelines, and expected outcomes.
  • Monitor and track proposal submissions, donor communications, and funding outcomes; maintain an organized database for reporting and follow-up purposes.
  • Advise ADAO management and program teams on effective fundraising strategies, donor engagement plans, and potential collaboration opportunities.
  • Support the development of internal capacity by mentoring and providing guidance to ADAO staff on proposal writing, donor communications, and fundraising best practices.
  • Prepare regular reports and updates for ADAO leadership on fundraising activities, proposal progress, donor feedback, and lessons learned to inform future strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with donor guidelines, ethical fundraising practices, and ADAO policies in all fundraising and proposal activities.
  • Represent ADAO professionally at meetings, conferences, and networking events with donors, partners, and stakeholders when required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachler or Master’s degree in Business Administration, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, or proposal development, preferably in NGOs or international organizations.
  • Proven experience in writing successful project proposals for institutional donors.
  • Strong understanding of donor landscape, including UN agencies and international NGOs.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills in English; knowledge of Dari and Pashto is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with donors and stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, result-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to organizational values.
