About AKHS-A (Aga Khan Health Service-Afghanistan)

Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.

The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.

AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.

Job Description

  • Lead organization wide reporting planning and delivery, setting internal deadlines, coordinating inputs from all departments, and ensuring on-time submission of all required reports.
  • Draft, compile, edit, and finalize high-quality written products including donor narrative reports, annual organizational reports, executive summaries, case studies, lessons learned documents, and other communications materials as required.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy and compliance by verifying that narratives align with approved workplans, indicators, results frameworks, and budgets; coordinating with M&E and Finance to validate data; and ensuring donor formats, and contractual obligations are met.
  • Serve as the focal point for donor communication and coordination by managing routine donor correspondence, preparing emails, responding to information requests, drafting updates, and coordinating internal inputs to ensure consistent and timely responses.
  • Coordinate donor engagement activities such as donor briefings, meetings, project visits, and virtual presentations, including preparing agendas, presentations, briefing notes, and meeting packs in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Properly implement the project workplan to make sure the activities are done as per the approved working schedule
  • Maintain organized donor and reporting records by keeping updated donor contact lists, communication logs, reporting archives, submission evidence, approvals, and key documentation in structured filing systems.
  • Provide direct executive coordination support to the CEO by managing meeting scheduling and confirmations, preparing agendas and briefing materials, and ensuring relevant stakeholders are prepared and aligned.
  • Document CEO meetings and ensure follow-through by taking minutes/notes as required, capturing decisions and action points, maintaining an action tracker, sharing follow-up tasks with responsible staff, and monitoring completion against timelines.
  • Support internal coordination and information flow by sharing reporting requirements and deadlines, facilitating review and approval processes, and escalating risks (delays, data gaps, compliance issues, sensitive donor matters) to management in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by developing/updating report templates, standard operating procedures (SOPs), style guides, and quality checklists to strengthen consistency, professionalism, and efficiency across the organization.
  • Any other task as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Job Requirements

Eduacation:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, International Development, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s advantage).

Work Experience:

  • 3–5 years (or more) of relevant experience in reporting, donor liaison/grants support, communications, program coordination, and/or executive support—preferably in NGO/INGO or development/humanitarian settings.
  • Demonstrated experience producing donor-ready narrative reports and coordinating multi-department inputs.

Skills:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills; ability to convert technical information into clear narrative reporting.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills with proven ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, including data consistency, formatting, and compliance requirements.
  • Professional communication and relationship management skills with external stakeholders (donors/partners).
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in MS Office/Google Workspace (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and shared document management systems.
  • Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and follow-up discipline.

Languages:
