About ANHDO
Afghanistan National Horticulture Development Organization (ANHDO) is a national non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization registered with the Ministry of Economy and established in April 2009. The development of ANHDO is part of the European Union (EU) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) long term strategy for the development of horticulture sector in Afghanistan. Since then, ANHDO has developed into an important institution for horticulture development by comparing among other skilled and experienced Afghan professional organizations in the horticulture sector. ANHDO is operating in close coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) based on separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Hence, ANHDO is a corner stone of the long-term strategy for the development of the horticulture sector in Afghanistan.

Job Description
Position Summary
The Value Chain Specialist will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of agricultural and livestock value chain activities under the PREVALE II project. The role focuses on assessing value chains, identifying service and input gaps, strengthening localized services, and supporting market linkages. The specialist will ensure that value chain interventions contribute to improved productivity, food security, and sustainable livelihoods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Value Chain Assessment
- Conduct desk reviews and secondary data analysis of agricultural and livestock value chains.
- Map stakeholders and identify service providers (seed suppliers, veterinary services, feed/fodder providers, processors, traders).
- Collect field-level data on production, marketing, and service delivery.
- Analyze localized input and service gaps, including veterinary coverage, feed/fodder availability, and extension services.
- Assess market channels and demand for agricultural and livestock products.
- Facilitate validation and prioritization workshops with communities and stakeholders.
2. Agricultural Enterprise Support
- Identify high-value crops and orchard opportunities (apple, apricot, walnut, almond, pistachio, grapes, saffron).
- Facilitate MSME development in agri-processing, packaging, and food value addition.
- Promote crop diversification and intercropping to maximize land use and resilience.
- Support quality standards, branding, and certification for agricultural products.
4. Market Linkages & Service Development
- Strengthen connections between producers, processors, and buyers to improve market access.
- Facilitate partnerships with input suppliers, traders, and cooperatives.
- Support establishment of localized service centers for inputs, veterinary care, and extension.
- Promote community-based livestock and crop management systems.
5. Capacity Building & Training
- Develop training materials and manuals for farmers, MSMEs, and service providers.
- Organize workshops, mentoring sessions, and exposure visits for value chain actors.
- Build capacity of consortium partners to sustain value chain support.
6. Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance
- Track value chain progress, challenges, and outcomes using project M&E tools.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and recommendations for scale-up.
- Ensure compliance with donor guidelines, safeguarding standards, and gender inclusion principles.
- Contribute to quarterly and annual reports on value chain activities.
Work Conditions
- Based in Kabul with frequent travel to project sites.
- Standard working hours with flexibility during training, workshops, or field missions.

Job Requirements
- Master degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, agricultural marketing or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in value chain development, livelihoods, or enterprise support.
- Strong knowledge of agricultural and livestock production systems in Afghanistan.
- Experience in value chain analysis and market development for agricultural products.
- Excellent facilitation, training, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
- Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto and English.
