Job Description

Job Summary

The TVET Bead Embroidery Trainer will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering high-quality theoretical and practical training in bead embroidery to female beneficiaries, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), returnees, and members of the host community under the UNHCR-funded Livelihood Programme implemented by APBHO.

The trainer will equip participants with market-oriented technical skills to produce high-quality bead embroidery products for local markets and self-employment opportunities. The trainer will ensure that beneficiaries acquire practical competencies in embroidery techniques, product design, quality assurance, pricing, marketing, and small business development, enabling them to generate sustainable income beyond the project implementation period.

The trainer will be responsible for maintaining a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment while ensuring the successful implementation of all training activities in accordance with project objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured theoretical and practical training on bead embroidery in accordance with the approved curriculum and training schedule.
  • Prepare detailed lesson plans, practical demonstrations, and daily training activities that meet project objectives.
  • Train participants in various bead embroidery techniques, including hand stitching, decorative stitching, bead attachment methods, pattern tracing, color combinations, motif development, and finishing techniques.
  • Deliver practical training on bead embroidery for garments, handbags, scarves, shawls, cushions, home décor items, accessories, and other marketable products.
  • Demonstrate proper selection and use of beads, threads, needles, fabrics, embroidery frames, and other training tools and equipment.
  • Train beneficiaries on product quality standards, quality control procedures, finishing techniques, packaging, and presentation to meet market requirements.
  • Conduct regular practical exercises, assignments, and competency-based assessments to evaluate trainees' progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify trainees requiring additional support and provide coaching to improve their technical skills and performance.
  • Conduct basic market assessments to identify customer preferences, product trends, pricing, and demand for bead embroidery products.
  • Teach participants basic entrepreneurship concepts, including costing, pricing, record keeping, customer service, marketing, and business planning for home-based enterprises.
  • Promote creativity and innovation by encouraging trainees to develop unique and marketable embroidery designs.
  • Ensure efficient utilization and proper management of beads, fabrics, threads, tools, and other training materials while minimizing waste.
  • Maintain inventory records for all equipment, tools, and materials assigned to the training center and ensure their proper care and storage.
  • Maintain daily attendance records, trainee progress reports, assessment results, and other required training documentation.
  • Ensure discipline, punctuality, equal participation, and a positive learning environment throughout the training period.
  • Promote occupational health and safety by ensuring trainees understand and follow safe working practices during practical sessions.
  • Coordinate closely with the Senior Livelihood Project Officer and other project staff to ensure timely implementation of project activities.
  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and final training reports, including attendance, progress, achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Support project monitoring visits, evaluations, and donor field visits by providing accurate information and documentation.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the vocational training component by ensuring high-quality training outcomes and beneficiary satisfaction.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior Livelihood Project Officer or Project Manager to support the effective implementation of the livelihood programme.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or recognized vocational certificate in Bead Embroidery, Handicrafts, Textile Arts, Fashion Design, Tailoring, or a related field.
  • Additional vocational training or certification in embroidery, handicrafts, or entrepreneurship is considered an advantage.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience in delivering practical and theoretical bead embroidery training.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality bead embroidery products using various stitching and decorative techniques.
  • Previous experience working with national or international NGOs, UN agencies, TVET institutions, or livelihood projects is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with women, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), returnees, and other vulnerable communities is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in conducting competency-based vocational training, practical assessments, and trainee performance evaluations.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent practical knowledge of bead embroidery techniques, decorative stitching, pattern design, finishing, and quality control.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver structured theoretical and practical training sessions.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to motivate and support trainees with different educational and skill levels.
  • Good understanding of product quality standards, market requirements, and customer preferences.
  • Basic knowledge of entrepreneurship, product costing, pricing, marketing, and small business development.
  • Ability to conduct simple market assessments and guide trainees in producing market-oriented products.
  • Strong organizational, planning, inventory management, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain training records, attendance sheets, inventories, and progress reports accurately.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective coordination with project staff and stakeholders.
  • Patient, flexible, culturally sensitive, and committed to working with vulnerable communities.
  • Ability to understand and comply with organizational policies, safeguarding standards, ethical principles, and vocational training procedures.
